What was house of M about besides mutants.aceraxon wrote:Man I hated Onslaught. Ugh, the bad memories of that.
Identity Crisis is still one of the most important events in DC Comics. The repercussions are still felt to this day.
I have a feeling in a few years, we'll be saying, "What was Blackest Night about besides Black Lanterns?"
What was Secret Invasion about besides Skrulls.
etc.

It's funny as when we talk about important story lines, sometimes as i said before it isnt always great content itself that gives it it's historical reference years later.geocarr wrote:I have to say I enjoyed the Public Enemies story and re-read it every now and then. It's fun for what it is and I don't expect it to be anything more.Draco wrote:Please tell me you are teasing me?superman-prime wrote:millers DD

This title when it began was the book that gave DC hot book status for the first time in a looooooong while.
DC just didnt have any books that made any noise till this came out.
2nd and i think 3rd prints of the first two issues really made this a wall book, which was followed by many more soon after across the DCU.
Good point. I list Onslaught as important, not nescessarily great.Draco wrote:sometimes as i said before it isnt always great content itself that gives it it's historical reference years later.geocarr wrote:I have to say I enjoyed the Public Enemies story and re-read it every now and then. Shooter's The Korvac Saga on the Avengers, must read.
Claremont/Byrne Uncanny X-Men, I don't care if some of the dialogue feels hokey in retrospect, the books had a cool vibe to them and Byrne was at the peak of his powers.
Cerebus: High Society
Crossfire, Blackhawk, Scooby Doo, heck, anything by Evanier/Spiegle

As far as best stories go, most have been mentioned already.
As far as most important go, that depends on what you mean. Most important for the characters or the universe? Most important for the medium?
What is interesting to me is books that are important for more than just the story content. It is interesting when a story makes bigger changes in comics.
I think "Ultimate Spider-Man" is the fulcrum point when Marvel switched from being on the verge of bankruptcy to the powerhouse they are now.
I think "Green Lantern:Rebirth" is the most important DC story of the last 10 years. Yes, it brought back Hal, but more importantly, it shifted the entire direction of DC comics towards the brighter, "silver age glow" direction they have been moving. Marvel seems to be copying this move.
The books that most influenced the change from "90's" comics to "00's" comics are JLA by Morrison, Morrison's run on New X-Men, and most of all, Warren Ellis's Authority.
I don't think Authority is remembered for how HUGELY influential it was. It defined and popularized decompressed storytelling, and "widescreen" comics. When Authority was coming out, it seemed like everything was either trying to emulate Authority, or catch up to it.
If you read Ellis's run on Stormwatch, and the transition to Authority, you can see the 90's end and the 2000's begin. I'd say that Ellis's Authority run is the most important run of comics in the last 20 years.

Is that Batman 250 where the kids sit around the campfire and tell exaggerated tales about their encounters with Batman?Chuck64 wrote:[
You might know this one. I can't remember if it is an issue of Batman or Detective. I think it's Batman. The issue is essentially made up of different people's encounters with Batman. I think it did a good job of giving depth to character.
