Most impressive single issue?
What single issue of any comic has impressed you the most?
For me it would probably be Batman #433. This was part one of the three part Many Deaths of the Batman run. I've read many issues that I've liked/enjoyed more, but this is the issue that impresses me most. Jim Aparo showed, at least in my opinion, what an artist can and should bring to a story. I was so caught up in the story when I first read it that I didn't realize that it only had two words in it (Gordon saying "Get out" I believe it was) until several months later after reading one of the letter columns or trades.
By the way, I haven't got to let my "inner comic book geek" out in a long, long time so give me a break if some of my post aren't up to par.

A few of my choices:
Uncanny X-Men #198, interesting Storm story, and beautiful BWS art.
Animal Man #26, the best post-modern comic ever.
G.I. Joe #85, not objectively amazing, but it made a strong enough impression to make me start reading comics
Sandman #38, this story always stood out to me for some reason

I'd go along with Animal Man #26, but I consider it more impressive when taken with the rest of Morrison's run instead of as a single issue.Dr. Solar wrote:A few of my choices:

Me too. Fantastic run.Chuck64 wrote:I'd go along with Animal Man #26, but I consider it more impressive when taken with the rest of Morrison's run instead of as a single issue.
Flash #0 will always be a special book for me. The art was superb and the way Wally discovers the identity of the mysterious stranger who inspired him as a boy is one of my favorite moments in comics period. The book just leaves you feeling great after reading it and was probably the book that took me from "liking" the Flash to being obsessed with the Flash.

I agree, but I remember I got a bunch of random Animal Man issues years ago, not a complete run by any means, and this issue was one of them. I picked it out and read it because of the strange cover, and thought it was one of the coolest comics I ever read. It was a couple years before I got the entire run to read.Chuck64 wrote:I'd go along with Animal Man #26, but I consider it more impressive when taken with the rest of Morrison's run instead of as a single issue.Dr. Solar wrote:Animal Man #26, the best post-modern comic ever.

Wow, that was one of my favorite Batman stories I ever ever read when I was a kid. The "all silent" issue. I remember that was around the time John Byrne did his 2 year Superman run too. Classic.Chuck64 wrote:What single issue of any comic has impressed you the most?

Another impressive issue for me was probably a Groo issue. The Groo 25th Anniversary Special is up there too.

Yeah, that was good.vikingspawn wrote: Another impressive issue for me was probably a Groo issue. The Groo 25th Anniversary Special is up there too.
Also on my list would be Jonah Hex #50 and the Amazing Spider-man Rhino issue. I'd recommend both of those to anyone.

Eh, I'd say that falls more under "Greatest comic book moments" rather than "Greatest comic book issues".Lightning Strike wrote:Daniel Jackson wrote:There have been a lot of great single issues over the years, but one that sticks in mind was Thor 390. A few for me.
Astro City #1
A&A #0
And, of course there are a few Fables and Sandman stories that are amazing but I don't know the issue numbers.
And maybe the most emotion I have ever felt reading a comic book was a Walking Dead story
(SPOILER).....................
Where the Governor cuts Tyreese's head off! Just gut wrenching.
But so many more.

Yep. 'Burn'. Superman v Mongul on his birthday.400yrs wrote:Is this the one by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons? I've got to track that down.IMJ wrote:Oh man, I'd easily give that to Superman Annual #11.
Tim already mentioned it but I'm going with Flash 0. It's a great issue that leaves you with a wonderful feeling once you've finished it. It's one of those time travel stories that works out really well rather than a horrible mess. It's the issue that made me really love Wally West as the Flash.
JLA 4 is another contendor for me. A lot of people hate the idea that Batman as more prepared than anyone but it's a great touch that Morrison pulls off here.
