Who owns the rights to Turok?
When I heard that Dark Horse is rebooting Turok I got so excited. I love this series! But I'm confused about the character/franchise rights. Did Dark Horse entirely buy Turok from classic media? Does this mean classic media is no longer working on a live action film? It's been over 2 years since Adam Beach announced they were writing a script for a live action film.
And then there was a controversy that I read about between Valiant and Dark Horse regarding Turok. And then theres Disney Interactive who produced the latest game. It seems like this series is getting pulled every which way.
And how is it that Turok can be split up over so many medium (comic, movie, video game) and all by different companies?!

That is correct.MoonChild wrote:Welcome, from what I understand, Classic Media licenses out Turok to all the other companies. I loved the Animated movie, I hope they do make a live action film with Adam Beach.
From what I understand, Turok (and Dr. Solar and Magnus) are OWNED by Random House.
Random House acquired the assets of Western Publishing, which was Gold Key and Dell before.
Classic Media is the company handling the licenses of the Western Publishing characters for Random House.
Ultimately, Random House is in charge, however, they have allowed Classic Media to call the shots for several years.

What legal battle are you referring to? The only one I'm aware of was between VEI and VIP over the lapsed trademarks. That never involved Turok or any of the other GK characters though.davidnssbm wrote:I see. And can someone explain the legal battle in layman's term? Did it ruin the franchise or future turok projects at all?
