StarCraft 2
So is anyone else here looking forward to this game?
I've waited YEARS for this to come out just to be sitting here with an outdated machine in which yes, I can play it but all the bells and whistles need to be turned off and to me, that is NOT the experience I want to have... so I may have to upgrade or buy a new computer.
I mean I am overloaded with Xbox 360 and PS3 games but I would put them all on hold to play this baby. It just kinda sucks right now, game coming out tomorrow, I've been playing the beta and LOVE it just to sit here not able to REALLY play it.

I am a StarCrack-Head and am hoping this game doesn't end my marriage.
Remember those guys on battle.net that would send a zillion Hydras and Zergling's about 5 min in? Yeah, that was me.
That being said, I have waaaay too much stuff to draw on deadline to be getting sucked in right now so Mr. Raynor and Ms. Kerrigan will have to wait.
Until then, "It's in the pipe, *SQUEE* *SQUEE* gripe!"

LOL bring on them Koreans! They didn't scare me on Battle.net. Well then again I only participated in season 1 Ladder and made close to top ten before all the hacks started appearing. I'm ready for them nonetheless!ian_house wrote:Not really. I can't give more than a couple of commands a minute and you end up getting buggered by a Korean who can build a base in a milisecond!

I was in on the Beta... VERY NICE but again was limited to my computer being out of date. It was DA BOMB when I first bought it but that was during the XP days. I can only imagine how out of date I am. I guess that is why I switched to console game no matter how much I loved the RTS and FPS using a mouse. Consoles never need more RAM, a better processor or a better video card. And all the updates are done everytime I turn on my consoles, I am notified of a patch or update and boom it is off and running. Any game needing an 'update', never see the word patch any longer, and it is done in less than 45 seconds, that is the download and the install. It seems almost better or really IS better.superman-prime wrote:I think it ended with the beta test run
check youtube for some gameplay but it is almost as good as c&c generals

I don't 100% agree. We are seeing better and better graphics coming out of the 360 which was launched on November 22, 2005. I mean the thing is only getting better (heating issues be damned and the slim has seemed to have solved that - but curse Microsoft for delivering a faulty product in the first place... shame shame). The Modern Warfare engine/game is just stunning and just wait, it is going to get better.
The PS3 ? While to me software bites at this time but developers have been able to throw incredible things a The Chip and the thing just turns... looks at them and says, 'is that all ya got' ? (Yeah, and then we Hulk-kick it into a tree only to have it come right back at us with better and better graphics, the thing IS a monster just not marketed for the U.S.) most of the games ship running 720p fer cripes sake.
So, I guess my frail argument is that I think that both systems have another 4-5 years of greatness and then the NEXT GEN console will not only blow us away but scratch our balls at the same time.
What gets me is that the systems are running something like 256 meg video cards and an unknown amount of RAM and look what they are doing. Yet open an Alienware computer and they are playing with stuff backengineered from the Roswell incident. hahaha
Can you imagine if Alienware put a NextGen console together ? (whoo getting light headed, gotta lie down now hahaha)
But PCs, they make 'em easy to open for a reason. Bummer.

PC and console specs aren't really a fair comparison. For one thing, an Xbox doesn't have to run Windows. The OS on a console is very simple by comparison and is written specifically for the hardware (most of which was specifically created for the console), optimized to make the most of it, and running extremely efficiently. It doesn't have to be able to load hundreds of different hardware drivers (and help them all play nice with each other). It doesn't have to work with the millions of programs - commercial, shareware, freeware, private, etc. - that people are free to write. It doesn't have to have anti-virus and a registry and a desktop etc. The software (games) on a console don't have to be written to be compatible with a wide range of hardware - different combinations of different video cards at different resolutions running on different processors using different sound processors and to be controlled with different input devices. The PC serves a lot of different functions. The gaming console - one function.
No matter how optimized your PC is, there's a lot of "bloat" that just doesn't exist on consoles. Even the way the hardware components talk to each other, the way RAM is shared, etc. is very different.
