I read Dr. Solar #1 again....
So I read Dr. Solar #1 again, and it was better the second time around. I have come to the conclusion that, yeah, it is the art that is the problem, unfortunately.
I think Dennis Calero needs to sit down with Jim Shooter and have this 50 cent talk on storytelling or 350 cent talk on storytelling or whatever that the editor mentioned in the bio page of the comic. If you take out Jim Shooter's words, then the comic really makes no sense (or LESS sense).
Also, no backgrounds, no people reacting to their fighting. That was the biggest disappointment.
I read this article here from Jim Shooter on Dr. Solar #1:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page ... e&id=26692
He mentions in the article that Dennis didn't quite get what Jim was trying to protray in the first page of the issue. He said the first time he saw it was on Newsarama when they went public with the preview.
Sigh.
Jim later mentions, after he saw the issue, that he went to lunch with Dennis and talked about the issue and what he thought needed changing. Part of me wonders if this is why Dennis isn't doing the third issue. Not this talk they had, specifically, but he might just not be "getting it". Anyway, I look forward to the new artist and what he brings to the table.
As far as Jim's writing, I think it was fine. He infused some real science in there, and made it believable. I think he meant for the make-believe superhero characters in there is be a little quirky and silly, but it didn't work as well as it could have, again mostly because of the art.
Anyway, I look forward to the next issue, and REALLY look forward to Magnus #1 in three weeks.

Yeah I liked the FCBD story better this time too. INteresting note: The FCBD issue takes place August 15, Dr. Solar 1 happens 5 days later on Aug. 20.JonesyAZ wrote:When I got home from work tonight, I sat down and re-read the FCBD Solar story, as well as Doctor Solar #1. I can also confidently say that reading these again is a MUCH better experience. WOO HOO!!!

I hadn't noticed that. Thanks!Ryan wrote:INteresting note: The FCBD issue takes place August 15, Dr. Solar 1 happens 5 days later on Aug. 20.JonesyAZ wrote:When I got home from work tonight, I sat down and re-read the FCBD Solar story, as well as Doctor Solar #1.
