Wizard encased/number gold cards...

Post by Knightt »

Scored yet another slew of Wizard encased and numbered gold cards. The ones picked up today (pictured in the upper part of the photo) have a few I didn't have and are a bit less scratched up. A few dupes here and there but hell, I love that holofoil. (this is one of my closet collections... these and any other Wizard card from back in the day. My bestest card is a The Spirit card signed and numbered by Wil Eisner.)

Image

Sorry for the condition of the photo, wife and kids are on a trip and left me with the old camera. Now to get the damn price stickers off the cards... like the damn LCS owners should know NOT to do that by now. Ah well, just a dab of goo gone will do the trick.

They are all pictured there... I can still send a list if ya need. You collect the ones from the magazine as well ?

Here is a whole list... (I need to update my list as I can see I am missing a few, but few indeed)

WHOA... never knew my: 1 Spawn (Todd McFarlane; Silver border, Diamond Conference; 100 made) was limited to only 100 made !!! (this kinda makes my day)

Wizard Magazine Series
Wizard - 1992-1997

Notes: These aren't all of the promo and special cards that have been distributed
in Wizard, but they encompass the period when Wizard was grouping them into
specific series. The gold cards were sent to retailers, in sealed and numbered cases,
for every 25 copies of the magazine that they ordered. (But occasionally the
company sent out incentive cards that weren't encased.) "Regular" in-comic promos
had prismatic borders and are identified by the issue # in which they were found.

I have about 20-30 of Superman The Man of Steel (Gold) and when my cash flow improves I will probably start actively hoarding these again. I just really like this card. 8-)

I know that this is an ancient thread, but for some reason this set has been on my mind lately. Does anyone still put these together? I think the only ones that pique my interest are the gold incentive cards.

I'd be interested in seeing a legit, clear checklist of what comprises this "set".

Great reset ... Jeff Allender's checklists are usually my go-to for stuff like this. It looks like that is where Knight got his list but maybe there have been some updates?

There are still some people living in the 90's on eBay, with huge pricing on this set, but for the most part, $1 to $3 per card I'd say is an affordable way to put this set together out of nostalgia! :thumb:

Has anyone ever heard of a Maxx Gold Error Card from this set? Apparently this card with a line through it was a printing error that some collectors are looking for....

I can't find any dedicated information on it though. Thoughts?
