I am now in the J. M. DeMatteis run, which is fantastic stuff. A big shift in the tone of the book with the focus shifting to the occult stuff and the introduction of Gargoyle. Also really enjoying the art, some of the best stuff from Don Perlin I've seen. Looking forward to finishing this series.
Brother J, please let me know the issue numbers for the JM DeMatteis run. I had a Defenders book in the 100's I believe that had a painted cover that I bought off the newsstand as a kid that I read to absolute death. I can't remember the story but I distinctly remember enjoying it, roughly 30 years later.

Vol. 2 won't be out until August or September, I think.

Vol 2 was solicited in the June previews, though it's mark Millar book. It will likely be out sometime around oct, 2012

DeMatteis hasn't let me down yet! (have you tried his Man-Thing or Seekers Into the Mystery?)
Nope, haven't read either title, although I have wanted to complete runs of Man-Thing Vols. 1 and 2. I'd also like to pick up the Giant Size issues, if only to laugh about the title, "Giant Size Man-Thing". :P

Issues #92 to #131 are the DeMatteis run, not sure if he wrote every issue during that run, but there is a "goodbye" note from J. M. in issue #131.

Still haven't read it and now, because of what Loeb did to Heroes, I may never read anything he's written. At least, not for a few years.

It's definitely not a must read. Take your time to get there. If you've read Year One, you've read the first and better story of this type anyway.

I agree. I'll have to check out Fell. I've been hearing alot of good things about that book.
Thats a lot of recommendations for Walking Dead

Is it really that good?
Much like Fables, the answer is a resounding YES IT IS :thumb:

Yeah dude, you have no idea. You better clear out a weekend to dedicate to getting caught up. Once you read that first trade, you'll have to run out and buy the rest.

Re-reading early Nexus with my wife.

I'd been suggesting she read it for a while and the "As It Happened..." trade from Rude Dude Productions had been in her to-read pile for a while. She finally read it Friday and now she's obsessed.

Just finished I Kill Giants. I really really liked this story. This was one book that I could not put down until the end. I loved how Barbara stood up to the bully, and got through her issues. Great read and highlly recommended.

Don't forget Marvel Two-In-One #1 featuring the Man-Thing and the Thing. The title is written again in the top left corner of the cover ... but it's misprinted as "Marvel Two-On-One".

I'd say Man-Thing vol. 1 is much better than vol. 2 ... but vol. 3 is my favorite!

Is Nexus really that great? I've got a complete set (or two) laying around ... I've always been curious to read it and Baron is usually quite good (the early issues of Badger were great!).

Is there female appeal there? My GF likes Walking Dead ... not sure if she'd be into a super hero title.

I got the same "As It Happened" trade and loved it. It was my first time reading Nexus and I am hoping he continues those trades.

There are several strong female characters in Nexus but the greater appeal for my wife is the clean, 60s-type sci-fi without the heavy campiness that you get in a lot of sci-fi comics.

One of the best things I have read. For me, it is an instant classic.

One of the best examples of what the medium can be.

That is a truly special work that is so different compared to 99% of books on the market. A wonderful work of literature that I think is truly excellent reading for adults and kids.

I just can't read anything from Mike Baron after the absolutely horrible work he did for Valiant. His books were some of the worst stuff they published. The way A&A went downhill, his fill-in issues on Shadowman, his run on Hard Corps... if he was involved, it sucked.

Ok, what Heath said is exactly why I have never read Nexus. His Valiant stuff is SO bad, I could never make myself look at anything else.

maybe the difference for Baron is if it's creator-owned or not ... 'cause everything I've read by him that was creator-owned was great.
