I reacted as well. I followed the auction live and this went on for a while. Heritage had it on the back cover of the catalogue (among only a few other pieces of art), so I guess they had expected some bidding, but I wonder if anyone could have foreseen this.
When people don't dare to put their money in stocks, art is a possible alternative. Choice items benefit from that, and this is one.

It could go either way...I was thinking in terms of the way stock prices are analyzed, but there would be many examples in high-end collectibles as well, where once a new price level is achieved it signals higher prices yet. You gave some good examples of why this may not be the case here, though.iggy101us wrote:I'm not sure about that - Mark McGwire's HR ball, certain key Valiant 9.8s, . . .StarBrand wrote:It's hard to say. If you are going to drop 100K on a piece of art, it is best to buy a real original painting on canvas. The reason why i suggest an original painting is that you improve your ability to sell it later because original comic art is very specialized and will be harder to find a buyer, whereas, original paintings have a greater probability that you will have people willing to pay for the original painting.

As much as I like DD and Miller's art, that's just plain ridiculous
