How much do dust jackets usually cost to have made?

I print them myself using a good color printer in several sections, cut them out and tape them together using scotch invisible tape. Then I cover the entire piece with a Brodart book jacket.

I have to order the Brodart jacket from their website and those run about $10 for a pack of 25.

Effectively, my total cost for a dust jacket runs less than $2.

I've had some printed at Kinko's in the past and they went for about $14/piece. With the number of books I've had bound, that got too expensive too quickly.

It depends on what you like. If you look at my books above. The Battlestar Galactica has 23 issues with all the adds and back covers included. The Blue Beetle has 23 issues with all the adds and back covers removed.

Booster Gold is 25 with adds and back covers removed.
The Elementals are 31 with adds removed.

Personally I think if you are going to leave adds and back covers 20 to 23 is the best fit. If you are taking them out then 25 to 28.

But its up to personal preference and how you like to read. I didnt want to split the Elementals into 2 skinny binds and really like the idea of a complete series in one single book. But I also like to read in bed at night with my contacts out. So the downside is the book seems like a sumo wrestler sitting on my chest.

So far I have done 2 binds, 20 issues and 24 issues with ads and back covers left in. I really like the size and feel of the 24 issue bind, plus I really dont mind the old school ads left in. Although I might remove the back covers on my next project.

I went to wizard con Saturday and got an autograph from DM Dematteis for the bind of JLI I am planing. I told him and showed him my bind of Battlestar Galactica (I was hoping to get Stan Lee's Autograph but they did it by auction and the 3 actors from Battlestar where charging $20 or more so I passed). Anyway, DM Dematteis said he had never seen one before and asked how much they run and about the how the dies worked and took down the web address of LBC. He said he was thinking he might do the same with some of his comics.

In fact a lot of the other artists were interested in the idea. I also gave the address to Norm Rapmund who seemed pretty interested in the idea.

Gents,

Great looking books. I am eager to get my second set of Conan to the bindery, but am trying to find a digital copy of the Dark Horse Presents portion of Conan and the Weight of the Crown. No luck so far, and I dont want to bind the books without this story.

Received my latest set of bound comics back from Library Binding Company this week and finally got around to taking pictures. First up is my standard "Here are all of the books at once" shot.

In order: Volume 3 of my Bongo Boffoworks - Treehouse of Horror (issues 1-15), then Batman 1982 (collecting Batman and Detective from 1982), the last three volumes of Conan the Barbarian (collecting 201-225, 226-250, and 251-275), and Northlanders 1-20.

For Treehouse of Horror, I have not printed the dustjacket but I do have it designed and ready to go:

Also did a Table of Contents (original graphic and then the bound in TOC)

For Batman 1982, no dust jacket as I used imitation leather on the bind, but it does have a TOC

And an interior image (lots of good Don Newton art throughout that book!)

For Conan, these books just complete the series. Now it's onto King Conan and the Specials/Annuals before tackling the Conan of the 1990s.

Finally, Norhtlanders. I tried the LBC half-bind for the first time and I must say, I like the product.

Northlanders is a Vertigo series about Vikings. It's an attempt at historical fiction. Brian Wood has researched fairly thoroughly the lives and times of the Vikings and put together a series of stories dealing with various times and places in the North (Norway, Finland, etc.)

The third trade is out. This is a series worth reading, very entertaining. I was able to get Brian Wood to sign both copies of my trades at Comic Con last year.
