He started out that way but quickly became a much more complex and interesting character than Darkseid ever could be.

Thanos is not interested in conquest. He is no longer interested in killing to celebrate Death and has lost his appetite for more power. He has sought a purpose in his existence after abandoning these quests and that gives him the capacity to grow that Darkseid never will see.

So his purpose is to create a strap-on Galactus?

Darkseid does not grow, he subsumes and negates.

I was reading some old Avengers TPB... and the Marvel characters felt like knock offs of the DC characters. Vision? Quicksliver? ... They feel forced and stale.

I am slwly reading the Kree-Skrull War TPB and it's at least FOUR issues of back story and set up.

Roy Thomas (the writer) admits in the foreward penned in 2000, that he didn't have a plan for the war when he started out. And guess what, it shows. FOUR issues of set up? It's not really good set up either.

This is also my first encounter with Thor and he is damn anoying.

I keep thinking of the Martian Manhunter, not Vision as I read it, too.

Finally, If Quicksilver had black in is uniform, he'd be Dr. Light. And I keep thinking, why are these people heroes? Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch... I'd rather have them as villians.

Now, at the end of Issue 4 or 5, I forget... The original Avengers show up.

I am so happy my Showcase Presents JLA arrived yesterday. Unhappy they are black and white.

His first appearance was in an Iron Man book but he's generally in the more cosmic-oriented books.

He was established in the 70s as a character (not always an enemy) in the Warlock book and died in the late 70s. He was resurrected in the early 90s and popped up in Silver Surfer and Quasar before being featured prominently in several company-wide crossovers, Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity War and Infinity Crusade. He was a reserve member of a superhero team, Warlock and the Infinity Watch, and then came the dark ages where he didn't have a well-written appearance for years. He popped back up in a couple of mini-series, Avengers: Celestial Quest and Infinity Abyss (not related to the other infinity minis) and Marvel Comics: The End, followed by his own self-titled 12 issue series. He was featured in the first Annihilation crossover and has come back for the Thanos Imperative, the next iteration of Abnett and Lanning's ongoing cosmic saga that began with Annihilation.

If you want a good starting point with Thanos, track down the two issue Thanos Quest (immediate forerunner of Infinity Gauntlet) mini and the 6 part Infinity Gauntlet mini.

I agree I'm a DC guy too. I'm not a fan of the Showcase books really I've got a Green Lantern and Aquaman ones. Apart from them being black and white they are also printed on rubbish paper making the line work blurry.

Interestingly, multiple threads seems to capture my feelings on the big 2.

DC is better than Marvel.

The Marvel Cosmic stuff is pretty darn cool. I just finished Annihilation, and I'm reading the Annihilation: Conquest series now. Pretty cool stuff. It reminds me of how comics were when I was younger. Good ol' good guy versus bad guy stuff, but interesting and fun.

I read War of Kings as it came out, but I think I might pick up the hardcover to go with the Annihilation hardcovers. I'll pick up the Thanos Imperative hardcover when it comes out.

Two questions, how is the Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy series, and when the hell are we getting MORE DARKHAWK?

Yeah I don't mind seeing more of Darkhawk since he was an underused character with lots of potential.

I'm currently working out a transaction over at the CGC boards on one of the major books I'm trying to get my hands on. Hopefully it will work out by next week and I'll have pics to show. Getting a bit antsy here... :)
