Gotta say I wasn't a fan of the idea of binding comics a few months ago but recently I've seen some amazing stuff on the board from you binding freaks  Not sure if I'd be tempted but you guys do have some amazing books there!

Have you bound much in imitation leather versus the regular buckram? I've bound Jonah Hex in brown imitation leather, one volume of Batman in black, and Poe in green.

I love the feel of the imitation leather and am definitely using it on what I consider "special" projects.

Just finished prepping my latest binds:

Nick Fury Vol. 2
X-factor Vol. 1 (1988)
X-force Vol. 1

I cant decide if I want to do New Mutants vol. 1 or X-force Vol. 2. I would do Nick fury vol. 3 but im missing Nick Fury vs Shield #2.

mycomicshop.com has #2 available for $4.00 and with the codeword ALLAGES you get 10% off so it would be $3.60 (only 10 cents more than it originally cost off the rack.)

The imitation leather is the same price as the buckram and linen at LBC. There is also "bonded leather" might be more what you have in mind. It's 3 dollars more. I think it's like scraps of real leather chopped up and pounded into one piece. They only have bonded leather in 4 colors. I imagine its softer and smells like leather, since it is. The imitation leather looks like leather and has the texture but I'm pretty sure its actually the same material as buckram. I decided to use imitation on all the older books I have from the 80s and 70s. It looks more serious and classy

They have genuine leather but I think thats like 40 bucks more or something nuts.

Personally I dont like the Buckram, it looks and feels like a library book. Not what I think of as a book from someones personal collection. :D Like a fancy person would have. Buckram is the most durable and comes in lots of colors but the linen has just as many colors and looks and feels really nice. I've decided to use linen on all my newer binds.

As someone who spends too much time among the university stacks, that's I how I felt about the Buckram—just a little too stuffy and academic. After all, comics are my brain candy after hours of course work...

Still, some of the guys have been putting together real impressive collections with the dies, dust jackets, and now fully the printed covers.

PhoneyBone, your Grendel binds look great by the way. :thumb:

I subscribe to their newsletter and every week I get an email with the latest codeword.

The 10% discount applies to different section of their inventory. Usually there is a Marvel A-L or Marvel M-Z; DC Comics Batman or something special.

If you buy from mycomicshop.com, it is definitely worth signing up for their newsletter.

Cause one a book is trimmed and bound it doesnt matter how bad the corners or spines were. I paid under $30 for the complete Battlestar Galactica on Ebay. And maybe 50cents a piece for the rest.

Looking at you books and looking online at LBC, how many issues do you put into a bound book?

I generally bind around 20-25 issues per book. Depends really on the storyline.

One of my largest books was the Death and Return of Superman -- that one ran about ~2.5 inches thick and that was after I removed back covers and as many interior ads as I could. It was about 43 comics if I remember correctly.

I like the thickness of the 20-25 issue book. It feels like a good read. Less than that and it feels skimpy; more than that and it's a burden to sit down and read. Personal preference.
