RANK THE VALIANT TITLES

Post by PhoneyBone »

I didnt read much of Valiant when it came out, I was young and foolish and for some unknown reason took a liking to a comic writer who's name rhymes with Lob Reifeld. But recently picked up a complete set of Archer & Armstrong and see what I was missing out on. As a noobie to Valiant if you were to rate the Valiant titles from best to worst so I could keep an eye out for them, what would they me. :D

I would say just don't mess around. Greg has a real useful tool for VALIANT readers on the site. A complete checklist. Download, print, check off as you collect and enjoy reading all of it :thumb:

It depends on what you like of course but the big ones to go for are probably:
Solar, Magnus, Rai, Bloodshot, Archer & Armstrong, Eternal Warrior... ahhh screw, GET THEM ALL! It's like Pokemon...

You'll also find a lot of love for Lob Reifeld around here!

I say read them all but don't have high expectations post-Chaos Effect. Beware of Deathmate and end runs of Magnus and HARD Corps.

There's gotta be an old thread somewhere in the Rereading section that has a list of where most people feel each run fell apart...it's not the same for everyone...

There are some good reads after Unity, but you'll notice that most of the titles will start making a downhill slide. Bloodshot and Eternal Warrior remained decent right up until the end, but most of the other books didn't fare as well after Shooter left.

You don't like the X-O bike?

1st app of X-O bike > 1st app of Wolverine in Hulk #181.

 See, that's why you have to read them all including the bad issues. Otherwise you won't get these jokes and comments.

I JUST READ THAT ISSUE!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I second the notion regarding having to read the bad issues to get the jokes. This applies to the X-O Bike, and also the super villain who had the "hots" for Solar near the end of his run too.

Also, the very depressing end of the Magnus title too.

I second this! Best thing i've ever done!!!! It's fun to collect, fun to read, fun to discuss, fun to collect...wait, I already said that. The fact is, you could spend years collecting all the various ins and outs of the Valiant universe.

Amen to Walking Dead, still need to pick up Invincible but I'd add Chew and Fables to the list.

I'd say:
Magnus (1-25, then falls off but still good til the end of the Malev war)
Rai (cause Rai's better if you start with Magnus. 0-8 The it stopped!)
Harbinger 1-25
Solar 1-16
Archer and Armstrong 1-12
X-O 1-10

Eternal Warrior 1-CE (1-8 Great! 9-Chaos effect above avg)
Bloodshot 1-CE (always above avg)

Nothing else was ever great, although Hard Corps was really really good at times...
