My Story, Once Upon a Time...... a long post
Been collecting comics s long time, way too long. Started with DC, moved into Marvel. Have over 17,000 comics. All in Mylite 2's.
I remember when Magnus # 1 came out. I was living in Brandon, FL, and ran across it at a local comic shop. I recalled seeing the original Magnus in the 60's, but had never bought one. But I picked up #1 anyway.
For some reason, I never read it.
This was pre-internet time, I used Prodigy online services, this was even before AOL. I maintained the good trader's list on the comic trading forum (you could only trade, not sell).
For some stupid reason, I decided to try Image Comics, ended up trading the Magnus 1 for a bunch of Spawn and other Image comics.
Read them, hated them. Sold them.
Bought a few post-unity Valiants and got hooked.
I traveled alot for my job at the time, and was able to pick up what I had missed at comic shops all over.
Used to get Joe Petrilak's mailed newsletter before he went online. Got a few freebies from him, a Valiant Voyeur (Ninjak), a signed B&W print of an alternate cover for VH2 Magnus #7 (Magnus as Superman from Action #1), and a few signed books.
I also have a sketch of X-O by Rik Levins I got when I met Rik at a comic con in Pittsburgh while he was still pencilling X-O.
I stayed with Valiant all the way until the end of VH2, don't know why as the quality was gone, I was just hopeful that might eventually "get it".
Just recently found out about the A&A, Harbinger and X-O hardcover books, bought them and it re-ignited ny interest.
Decided to complete my collection by trying to pick up the variants (gold, painted cover, etc). Then, I decided to put together a second set, and have one for reading and one for keeping in great shape. I have most of the Variants, missing a few VVSS, and one VH2 Retailer Preview. Have about 90% of my reading set.
Good scores of late:
Acclaim Comics Valiant Heroes Preview
Unity 2000 #3
Unity 2000 # 1, Dynamic Forces Blue Cover Variant
Shadowman V3 #6
X-O 0, 0 gold, 1 & 6 all CGC 9.8

I'm Closer to 20,000, I've been on a buying spree.StarBrand wrote:Extra cool that they're all in Mylite 2's.Phoenix8008 wrote:Cool indeed! Dang. How many longboxes is that?StarBrand wrote:Very cool...dhudson1 wrote:Have over 17,000 comics. All in Mylite 2's.
I ordered 1000 mylite 2's in December and I put 2 comics per bag. I just ordered another 1000.
In the long run it is cheaper as you do not have to replace them.
It is roughly 35 long boxes and 60+ short boxes. I have Realms of Wonder inventory software, all the boxes are numbered and crossreferenced in Realms.
