who would win a fight? Dr. Solar or Dr. Manhattan
i really liked the Watchmen and i every time i saw Dr Manhattan i just thought to myself. what if massarsky didnt stab valiant n the back? only for its demise to end up in the gutter? what if shooter would have stayed and continued to construct this perfect machine? would we be watching movies like the Watchmen? or would we watch the valiant universe come to life? so it made me ponder? who would win a fight? Solar or Manhattan? looking forward to your response. but me personally, Solar wins tko 6rd

I think Dr. Manhattan would win because he seemed to lose his humanity and emotional side much moreso that Phil ever did. I think they would both quickly realize that the other was capable of destroying them. I think Phil might emotionally hesitate and Dr. Manhattan logically wouldn't.
Also, I believe both are able to time travel and manipulate the space/time continuum.
EDIT: Basically what Dr. Solar beat me to saying above while I was typing.

Dr. Solar wrote:In all seriousness, I'm pretty sure Manhattan would win over Solar, because Manhattan seems to be able to think at relativistic speeds, whereas Seleski thinks at "mere human" speeds.
I imagine they are similarly powered, so it will all come down to speed of implementation.
you have a good point
I think Solar would win. Simply because Solar is used to dealing with energy beings. He's fought and destroyed alien complexes and XO Manowars, whereas Dr. Manhattan has fought in... what??? Vietnam.
Yeah, Manhattan might be able to think faster, but Manhattan only knows how to destroy or rebuild matter, whereas Solar knows how to deal with energy.
Yeah, it would be a fight, but when push comes to shove, Solar would simply absorb him and be done with it.
I don't think Dr. Manhattan really stands a chance.

Not necessarily. Remember the so-called climax of Watchmen. There was an energy emitted that prevented Dr. Manhattan from seeing beyond that point in time. Solar's energy would probably have the same effect.Drift wrote:Manhattan already knows the time and place the showdown would take place therefore he can see any outcome and plan accordingly.
Dr. M has already won, Solar just doesn't know it yet.
I don't think he'd ever see Solar coming or even know what to do about it.

Manhattan's precognition was blocked by significant tachyon radiation. Solar was bound by the speed of light and could not create tachyons - particles that moved faster than light. The best he might be able to conjure up is to take a chunk of space and create a negative potential-squared which would trigger tachyon condensation. The thing is - that's a whole new branch of science right there since you'd be adding a second dimension to the tensors.
Basically it's not happening.
Sorry, I'm not up to my 'hypothetical' science.Chiclo wrote:*sigh*steverino wrote:Not necessarily. Remember the so-called climax of Watchmen. I just know that Solar has delt with energy beings while Dr. Manhattan has made people go *poof*.
Dr. Manhattan has teleported people from one place to another and Solar has teleported people across time and space.
Dr. Manhattan made a cute little spherical something or other on Mars, Solar has remade a Universe.
*Sigh*
Yeah, Dr. Manhattan wins.

I tried to read that post allowed and it burned my tongue.steverino wrote:Just watch the movie. It was actually better. Much better!!Tim wrote:Embarrased to say I've never read Watchmen (not embarrased to say I've never seen Watchmen), so I can't really say.
Why would you say such a thing, steverino?

I'm not an Alan Moore fan. I'm just not. I can't stand him at all. Watchmen was a great disappointment to me.
But I actually did like the movie.

Well, in VH-2, Phil seemed to experience a huge leap in seeing time simultaneously, in a manner similar to Dr. Manhattan's.Chiclo wrote:I'd say Manhattan would have the edge over Solar but it would be close.
Manhattan had a certain precognition that I don't remember Solar ever developing.
Phil destroyed an entire reality; Jon, as Manhattan, wasn't assumed powerful enough to stop a full-scale Soviet attack.
Good gosh almighty--did I really just type all that?

Did we ever establish that Seleski actually destroyed a universe? I've pointed out before that if he created a supermassive black hole (which would require considerably more mass than the one yellow star he absorbed) and everything in the local area quit it's already established forward motion and started collapsing into the Earth at the speed of light it would take 17 years for the first 50 stars (and related star systems) to collapse into the Earth. The Universe is an awfully big place and quite stable even if our little corner of it collapses into itself.BloodOfHeroes wrote:Well, in VH-2, Phil seemed to experience a huge leap in seeing time simultaneously, in a manner similar to Dr. Manhattan's.Chiclo wrote:I'd say Manhattan would have the edge over Solar but it would be close.

A reasonable corollary - Solar had the ability to teleport over vast interstellar distances. The nearest star is 4 light years away and at the speed of light Solar would have had to fly for 8 years to the star and return to Earth. Manhattan was never shown to have the ability to teleport instantaneously over interstellar distances. It is a reasonable guess that Solar could outrun Manhattan but I still contend that in a knockdown fight Manhattan would take out Solar.
We need to unban MotA just for this thread.
