For years I have been involved with a mission in Haiti, Servants of All Ministry. The recent earth quake has devastated our complex while my organization serves the community as a relief shelter.

I have not spoken to many of you about my mission work, but I recognize that in times of need board members have come together to help. Should you feel burdened to act I have posted SOAM’s website address below.

All apologies, in trying not to beg for assistance or to appear to be capitalizing on this situation I left too much to be interpreted.
I have been down with a respiratory infection for two weeks and should have waited to post until I could take more time to craft my wording.
Thanks for your understanding.

No apologies needed, my friend. I was taken aback a bit because dude, THIS is the place to go if you need assistance or are involved with something that is in need. This is THE most giving, understanding and generous group of people I have 'met' on the internet (and a lot of them in person). I would be shocked it anyone felt like you were capitalizing on the situation. While I was in the Army, I spent many a month in Haiti, I know the poverty, I know the lawlessness but I also know the small children with big shining smiles and how playful the little ones were. To think that any of them may be harmed or worse, makes my heart break.sanman wrote:All apologies, in trying not to beg for assistance or to appear to be capitalizing on this situation I left too much to be interpreted.

But to be without it, sanman... you could have come to this board with a plea for donations to help people who are obviously in need (this is not like making up a story of how you fell off a mountain just to get some comics, this is an earth shattering event (NO pun intended) and the sheer mass of injured/dead is hard to contemplate. Bottom line, you CAN come here and seek aid for a part of your life that is outside the confines of the United States.
You post where folks can make donations to... and people will rally behind you not against you nor feel burdened. THIS is the message board that makes a difference in the world and looks at others in need with that feeling of 'I need to do something to help here.' This board has always rallied at the call to help.
My friend... we are far from burdened.
I would ask anyone reading this thread to please help out in any way that they can. Times being tough all over, well yep they are but WE are not faced with potentially half a million dead in our country. These are people in need... in dire straights and if we can, lets help them out. sanman has a vested interest in this and I am sure that his stomach is in knots over this natural disaster of epic scale.
If you can help out.... Please do.
To help speed along any possible donations, I have found the link to make a secure donation.

I am looking at my financials right now and will send what I can, bud.

Chris and all,
Wow, thank you for your words and for validating that I was trying to do the right thing. I remain appreciative and humbled. This is a very difficult situation for me. Having lived in New Orleans during Katrina seeing such loss and devastation at home this is even more heart breaking. Indeed the Haitian people need whatever help we can muster.
Guys, this is a serious situation. I ask that you do what ever you can. If you pray, Haiti needs some divine intervention. If you support the Red Cross or another organization sending aid please consider what you might contribute. And if you don’t know where to start SOAM, my mission, might be a site to check out—it’s been doing outreach in Haiti since the early 80’s.
And yes, SOAM does need financial help. The mission which houses about 80 kids is now a place of refuge for several hundred without homes. For the long term the property was damaged and there is no insurance.
Thanks all and God speed.

Yeah, it didn't work for me either but I think it should work if you go here:Tim wrote:Hey, Chris. I clicked on that link and it's bringing up something other than what I think it's supposed to.

Bud, I saw a show last night from DisneyEarth called 'Earth' and it was spectacular but in the end it had me in awe as to how 'small' we are in this world (don't get me going on the Universe). Even though we are small and only effect small spheres of influence, it made me realize that we all need to look out for each other in anyway that we can. It is hard enough to 'live life' add in a natural disaster and that just makes things even more harder. Can you imagine losing your home ? Can you imagine all the buildings on your street taken down from an earthquake ? Or even worse, losing a loved one due to an earthquake... almost seems impossibly hard to live through that. Even in our everyday lives, we could be snuffed out by a careless driver, a trip down the stairs, you name it. Whatever I can do to help, you can count me in.sanman wrote:Chris and all,

And thank you, sanman. For the last couple of days this has been very heavy on my heart and mind and I'd been debating the best place I could send some money to help with this thing. There are so many orginizations doing good work I was having a hard time picking one and all a sudden I come across your post.
