Collecting ACCLAIM COMICS (1996 to 2002)

Post by booted »

I completed my regular Valiant collection months ago and finishing up on the variant stuff.

I'm debating on collecting ACCLAIM COMICS (1996 to 2002)? Haven't read any of the titles, just wondering

- did you enjoy the story lines like the valiant era ones? THE VALIANT UNIVERSE (1991 to 1996)?

- do you find it harder to buy these comics, print runs seem awfully low.

I am an Acclaim fan. The first thing is that while the names are the same, the characters are different. If you can get over that, then there is some good reading there for sure.

Collecting the Acclaim books can be harder that the Val. uni, (the super rare will cost you a pretty penny).

But you can do ok on the commons.

There are some very good reads.

Shadowman Vol 3 is very good, (the end of SM vol 2 is good the beginning is ok),
The Darque stuff is very good.
The Eternal Warriors books are good.
I think the Acclaim Armorines books are better than the Valiant.
The Solar books are good (and important to the entire Universe).
Many, many people will say the Q&W was the best, for me it was just ok. (I only read a few issues).
Even some of the Turok books were entertaining.

Get a few and see if you like them.

BloodShot was the best, Quantum & Woody a close second, Solar third and Turok 4th. Shadowman III was also good. I'd say its worth the effort as most of these you can get on the cheap. I'v never read magnus, ninjak or X-0 as they just looked totally cheesy to me, so did doctor tomorrow but some say its actually pretty decent. opinions varry of course but i'd say grab some #1's and you be the judge!

It's not Valiant, but Acclaim did have a few pretty good ideas. I liked their take on Eternal Warriors and the one shot books with Turok were very well done. Once you get to issue #16 of Shadowman the book really takes off and I really enjoyed the Deadside premise. Solar and Bloodshot are definitely worth taking a look at along with Quantum & Woody and Doctor Tomorrow.

Magnus and X-O suffered the worst at Acclaim, IMO.

I think several years ago this thread would have been filled with much more negative responses to the whole vh2 attempt.

I think criticism has faded a bit as people actually read some of the later VH1 stuff and realized that VH2 is probably better.

I haven't read all VH2, but what I've read has been ok to good. Quantum and Woody is my favorite.

Thanks for the opinions, I rarely see this much response from other message boards on other subjects. I'll probably start out with a couple titles and go from there.

Much appreciated.

Quantum and Woody is a pretty unique comic.. I enjoyed it.

Im sure most of the titles have some merit.. but.. they dont compare to PreUnity writing, IMO.

I plan on tracking most of the Acclaim titles down after I get some of my other runs bound.

Have fun! :)

Acclaim was MUCH better than late Valiant.....if you can do what Elveen suggests [get past that the names are the same but the characters were not]

Seriously, late Valiant sucked the life out of me reading it

Honestly, I value all your opinions enough, that for most series, I stop at Chaos Effect. I've read a handful of late Valiants. They were abysmal! :atomic:

But, you all have me curios about Acclaim issues now.

:hm:

End run V1 bloodshot was pretty decent till the very end IMO, but it could have been better.
