Deadites Only Read This Thread: WARNING: Coarse Language

Post by Chiclo »

So... the coarse language I will be using is the word "Image".

You guys understand this. I don't have to explain it. I am wanting to put together a set of early Image comics. Something like 1993 to 1997 or thereabouts.

I am wanting to put together a checklist. Does anyone have a good website I can look to start on this? The Image wiki is worthless when it comes to this sort of thing, but then again it was made by Image fans so I don't know what my expectations were.

Mostly I am interested in what all titles they published and what variants there were. I know the big ones like Spawn, Youngblood, Wild Cats and Brigade but there were I don't know how many spinoffs to those.

Preliminary checklist:

1963 1 (Mystery Inc.), 2 (Nobody Escapes the Fury), 3 (Tales of the Uncanny), 4 (Tales from Beyond), 5 (Horus Lords of Light), 5 Ashcan (Horus), 6 (Tomorrow Syndicate)

My life this is a good thread.

I too have a similar interest in those early years.
The amount of dross they published just has to be owned from 10p bins doent it.

I did join the Image forum and to be fair they are a bunch of fanboy looneys over there, but maybe a nice email to either Erik Larsen or Jim Valnetino might be in order.
I have them both on facebook, so i can ask away for you?

I recall selling all my old stock back in about 2000 for 6 for £1 and some US airforce dude took three long boxes.
There were some titles in their i had never heard of and havent seen since.
man they out out some wacky stuff, but i guess the DU section gets me hard for that kind of old rubblish nowadays.

Good luck.

Funny thing - yesterday the wife said she wishes that I would mail off a stack of comics I set aside for you in early 2009. There's some Triumphant in that.

There were so many titles and spinoffs! Mycomicshop is pretty good with their list as well. You can just search by publisher and they have the years next to the titles as well.

Regarding Triumphant, I am almost done reading the issues, have about 8 more issues to go. I think the best Triumphant title is Doctor Chaos. I plan on selling the set when I am done. I have a complete set with most (but not all) of the aschans and signed editions. Open to trading the set as well though I don't have anything specific in mind I am looking for.

Sorry for the derailing. :P

Some of those issues from 95-97 might be tough. I'll be interested to see if you have any trouble finding any of them.

There's an Image variant thread begun somewhere, that I won't search for right now since I'm at work. But it's a decent start.

I'll admit it, I have been collecting Image books for the longest time trying to complete runs. Only one I have finished yet is Cyberforce (I 'might' need one or two ashcans).

I am really looking forward to completing The Darkness, Witchblade, WildCATs, Wetworks and Stormwatch. There are a lot of other titles but those are my main.

NO, I will NOT be putting together a Youngblood run.

I had a HUGE amount of Supreme if anyone would like to trade (Chiclo gets first dibs, but I am going to make him wait six months until I ship them out  )

Wasn't Gen 13 one of the early titles? 94 or so?

I am horribly shamed to say I am one issue short of the Youngblood v1 run. And I had that before I started thinking of Image this way - as worthy of space in my house.

I don't have much in the line of Supreme books. I'd love to snag some from you. Are you going to SDCC '10? I was thinking maybe just bringing the stuff I've been meaning to mail to you there.

I should've listened to the warning. I read this thread yesterday and bought some Image books at the LCS today. It was having a 50% off back issues sale and I picked up about 17 Stormwatch from the $1 bin. Included are #45 and #47. I think the later issues are hard to find. Now I may just go for the Stormwatch set.

Their 1st app was Deathmate Black, so that gives you a rough time frame.

I am really looking forward to completing The Darkness, Witchblade, WildCATs, Wetworks and Stormwatch. There are a lot of other titles but those are my main.

NO, I will NOT be putting together a Youngblood run.

I had a HUGE amount of Supreme if anyone would like to trade (Chiclo gets first dibs, but I am going to make him wait six months until I ship them out  )
I am horribly shamed to say I am one issue short of the Youngblood v1 run. And I had that before I started thinking of Image this way - as worthy of space in my house.

I don't have much in the line of Supreme books. I'd love to snag some from you. Are you going to SDCC '10? I was thinking maybe just bringing the stuff I've been meaning to mail to you there.
I do not think that I will be able to attend as right now, I am in job hunting mode (normal in the contracting world) and I do not know what my financial situation will be like then (or rather pretty soon as the tickets and hotel rooms reservation frenzy will soon be upon us).

I will gather all my Supreme issues and send you a list.

And not to sound sour, but I couldn't wait any longer and I have a deal going on with a board member for a whole slew of Triumphant. Sorry.

It was having a 50% off back issues sale and I picked up about 17 Stormwatch from the $1 bin. Included are #45 and #47. I think the later issues are hard to find. Now I may just go for the Stormwatch set.
I know a place up in Tucson that has about 5 short boxes of Image books cut at 75% off. Shoot me a list of what yer needin'. That could be an excuse for me to drive the hour to get there. :thumb:

I cobbled together a preliminary checklist mostly from what I have already and using Mile High, Lone Star and Newkadia as guides.

I'll work it over a little better of the next week or so.

After reading up on Image "continuity", I decided a good stopping point would be Dec 96.

You can't go wrong with Stormwatch IMO
Heres what I still need from series 1
Stormwatch(Vol.1): #40, 41, 44A, 44B, 44C, 47

I think that is my jumping off point as well. Later WildCATs and The NEW Cyberforce books were just a steaming pile of Yak dung.

Defcon 4 (1996) is a 4-issue mini-series. There's a total of 4 variants of #1. There's also a regular 1/2 and gold 1/2.

I just read it and it's OK. It was going to become a regular series but that never happened.

DOH !!!!

I really like most of Image (except the Youngblood and Supreme series... or ANYTHING that Liefeld was allowed to get away with and call it art) but when they went to Wildstorm under DCs banner, things went Tango Uniform...

Now the game adaptations, I think are going very well. I am currently getting Gears of War, and Prototype.

I was incredibly disappointed with Cyberforce... the artist totally ruined it for me. It seemed that Cyberforce ALWAYS had great artists so why they went with a manga-ish version of the team is beyond me. I lasted two issues and put it away forever... "POOF", gone, just like that, not in the continuity, it never happened, uh J.R. woke up from a nightmare and now all is good in my world.

Added Defcon 4, Darker Image and several Team 7 minis.

I'll have to look over the Astro City stuff. Looks like there's quite a bit before '97.
