I'm getting ripped off on shipping

Post by depluto »

I won this auction off ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 6521806969

Great deal, right?

I guess the guy is *SQUEE* that it went so low, so he is trying to charge me $16.50 for shipping. What can I do about this?

Judging by his rant in the listing he's been accused of this before. Unfortunatly what choice do you have if you want the books you have to pay it. Maybe if the actual shipping comes in less than you pay you could file a complaint with ebay (for all the good that will do).

That's a nice looking sketch, worth the price for that alone.

What a total prick. UPS costs $7 to ship 5 comics.

And you know....if there was TRUE justice, I'd make this fool EAT his 'I'm not ripping anyone off' bullshiznit.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

When eBay fixes it's broke down self...THEN I'll follow their rules.

Until then...I'll play the game the way everyone else plays it.

And with a clear conscience.

A quick flurry of emails seems to have resolved the issue. You will probably see that crap relisted on ebay soon.

Good for you Depluto. I think you are right he was trying to make up for some his loss here by gouging you on the shipping. Personally speaking, I generally try to avoid people who do not list the shipping costs up front for this very reason.

You live and learn. It was a pretty cool sketch.

Can that guy still neg me (not that I care)? Can I get in trouble with ebay (not that I care)?

there is only 5 books there right? Or am I missing something? He quotes shipping weight for 100 books as 23lbs so your 5 books would only weigh 1.25 lbs. Check with UPS on the cost from his zip to yours. Then call him on it.

he can still leave you a neg. He can basically claim "non-paying bidder" Do let this fall so easy.

you can not "include" paypal fees unless stated up front. In fact it is against eBay policy to charge money to recover eBay and Paypal fees.

You can leave him a neg.

You will also get a 'warning' that you can 'appeal'. 3 of them, and you're out.

It means he can claim to eBay that you were a non paying bidder and relist the items for free. It also means it would be hard for you to fight to get a neg removed.

I would at least try to report him to eBay for "hidding fees"

Payment: Surcharges
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/lis ... arges.html

Sellers may not charge eBay buyers an additional fee for their use of ordinary forms of payment, including acceptance of checks, money orders, electronic transfers or credit cards. Such costs should be built into the price of the item-this policy reduces the potential for confusion among bidders about the true cost of an item. Further, some forms of payment surcharges, such as credit card surcharges, are forbidden under the laws of many states, including California.

Can a seller add a surcharge to the final price of an eBay item? Yes, in three instances:

Sellers may charge a reasonable shipping and handling fee to the final price of their item, providing that this fee is disclosed in the listing. A shipping and handling fee can cover the seller's reasonable costs for mailing, packaging and handling the item. Shipping and handling fees cannot be listed as a percentage of the final sale price.
Sellers may pass along the costs associated with using escrow, if the buyer chooses to use escrow. Use caution when considering escrow. To avoid being deceived by fraudulent escrow services, use www.escrow.com, eBay's approved escrow service.
Sellers may choose to accept payment in a different currency than the currency listed on eBay. If the buyer chooses to take advantage of this optional payment method, the seller may pass along to the buyer any costs associated with the currency exchange, provided that the costs are disclosed and agreed to in advance by the buyer.

Excessive Shipping/Handling

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/lis ... pping.html
The seller is responsible for determining the shipping and handling charges on listings, and eBay encourages sellers to clearly describe the item and terms of shipping and delivery in their listings to avoid possible confusion. Before bidding on an auction or buying in a fixed-price listing, bidders/buyers should contact the seller about any questions they might still have that are not directly answered in the item's description.

Sellers may charge reasonable shipping and handling fee to the final price of their item, providing that this fee is disclosed up front in the listing. A shipping and handling fee can cover the seller's reasonable costs for mailing, packaging and handling the item. Shipping and handling fees cannot be listed as a percentage of the final sale price.

When a bid is placed, the bidder is entering into an agreement with the seller to purchase the item, which most often means incurring shipping charges that may also include handling fees.

In the case of disagreements between buyers and sellers regarding shipping charges, eBay encourages the parties to try to work the matter out. Usually these situations can be amicably resolved.

They sure don't show the true side of ebay in any of their commercials do they? Hi, welcome to ebay, we give our sellers the right to gouge you good for shipping then let them give you a neg when you protest their outrageous handling fees. And you can find all this and more on eeeebaaaaay....

EBAY? Follow its RULES re: SELLERS????

The only rule they follow with regards to SELLERS is when they don't pay their fees.

Otherwise....it's CARTE BLANCHE!

paypal fees off $1.00? so what is he asking for like 3 cents?

anyway, as my own personal rule, I always avoid bidding on auctions that have high shipping costs or dont list them at all. Could explain why the item sold for so low.

I was going to say that you should have made 35 payments of $.50 each to him...then you would have proof that you paid and he would not have gotten squat....report him to ebay and paypal if he didnt ship and when you get the books file a charge back...get all your money back...*SQUEE*...
