Ultraverse Scarcity Question
Anyone have any ideas how scarce these are? Thanks.

Back when Jim Shooter was getting ready to launch DEFIANT, he did an initial announcement/briefing event at Wondercon that year detailing some of the plans for DEFIANT. I flew to that Wondercon to hear Shooter's plans for DEFIANT myself. Malibu was at that same con, and they had a promo they were giving out at their table, which I grabbed a bunch of. I can't remember if this was that promo or not.
Re: Ultraverse Scarcity Question
I was emailing back and forth with Tom Mason for a while maybe going on two years ago now. He sent me one of these for free and I asked him what the numbers went up to and I paraphrase 'don't really know that one, I do know that we just decided to put numbers up in the corners so people would think they were 'limited' and therefore the numbering.StarBrand wrote:Anyone have any ideas how scarce these are? This is the most common of the three variants and still one of my favorite books to own.
Now are for the 'scarcity', well that could be a totally different story... I have seen quite a few of these as opposed to my copy of Miracle on Broadway but I was told that when Malibu went under, all employees were told to grab what you want, the rest is going into the dumpster.... and it did. Ultra5000s, gold holos, silver holos, signed books, foil books, you name it..... so it was not until recently (2-3 yrs ago now I suspect), those books that were grabbed by former Malibu employees began to pop up and were quickly swiped up (and then some) by a few old collectors. I would try to win whatever depluto and Brother J had not bid on (I think we had a pact back then, hehe) and I also remember getting outbid by some schmuch who was REALLY shelling out the dough for Ultraverse stuff.
What was that guys ebay name ? Anyone remember ?
Ahh the good old days... finding great deals at 0300hrs in the morning just trying to find them before anyone else but YES, the best thing was knowing there was just a small number of us picking the stuff up. Too bad that it started a frenzy as I remember paying something like $1.75 for one of the silver hologram books.depluto wrote:I remember that dude, can't remember his name though. That was pretty fun picking all that stuff up back then knowing we were the only two or three people bidding on it.
eh crazy times, crazy times.

Kind of makes you wonder who that guy could be. I guess just a huge Ultraverse fan. Looking at his recent bidding activity he's still buying up Ultraverse.Prelate1 wrote:That auctions high bidder atm is wmichaelaz. I wasn't knocking him, I just liked it better when there was no competition.Doorman wrote:That guy LOVES Ultraverse books. He's bought stuff off of me before and has sent me Ultraverse email newsletters once in a while.
I believe he was working to convince Quesada for an Ultraverse revival.
He's been a good guy by me.

He writes an Ultraverse newsletter. or am I misunderstanding that?Doorman wrote:That guy LOVES Ultraverse books. He's bought stuff off of me before and has sent me Ultraverse email newsletters once in a while.
