Just a short intro.
Hello.
I've been a lurker here for about 2 months now, finally decided to take the plunge and join.
My experiences with Valiant go back to having an 'in' with a local comic book shop, and although I didn't work there yet(a few years later I would get a job at my LCS), I remember knowing people and friends who were buying multiples (a guy I used to hang out with named Justin bought an entire long box of Spawn the day it came out, something like 325 copies {I realize this was Image}), and the craze that Valiant created.
I didn't get on board at the beginning, but I wasn't far off (I was able to snag Magnus 12 for $5 when issue 15 was on the stands and 12 was getting $50 or more), and can remember clearly the intro to Turok and how impressed I was. Immediately I was buying all Valiants I could find, and paying alot of money for them (I remember buying 2 copies of Rai #0 for $20 each, I was such a smart investor). Just to go off topic, we had 4 comic shops where I'm from at the time of the Valiant craze, and there were a total of perhaps 12 copies of Rai 3 and then 4 in the city, I remember this because I raced around from store to store to try to get one (just to give you an idea of the scarcity of these books when new--p.s.s, I never ended up getting one either).
So even though Turok was a ridiculous gimmick cover I loved the series, and of course being a Punisher fan I fell in love with Bloodshot as well. When the crash came and 2 of our shops closed (and there were hundreds of unsold 94 Valiants everywhere in town), I sort of lost interest and had a tough time with still all the crazy covers (Magnus 21 I think, the all silver one for example). And because I was into my girlfriend more than comics, I quit collecting, and it wasn't until the last few years that I decided to go back and start trying to finish off my runs--man, some of these books are still tough to find.
But really nothing's changed, besides the fact now that I prefer Magnus over Turok, the stories are in my mind, still the best from that time period and it's really too bad that Shooter was pushed out, the guy really created something special.
Thanks for listening,
Jay

I like this guy already

LOL, ya, I know, I'm sorry! I really haven't gone anywhere, I was actually just going back through all my old Valiants to come up with some kind of smart-alec post when the Jim Shooter bombshell landed--WOW! Now I just don't know what to do, I'm really quite depressed because of it. To know we almost had another Valiant Universe start up next year and now that's gone? I know it's been talked about too much already, just a sad time, especially after I re-read the first 10 issues of Shadowman (oh how I love Master Darque--psycho S.O.B isn't he?).leonmallett wrote:Welcome aboard Jay.Bloodshots1stborn wrote:Hello.

Anyways, I'm still here, thanks for all the warm welcomes folks, I will try to post more, I just prefer to read them.
Thanks again, I do feel welcome, and Jim Shooter if you're reading this I just have one question for you--why?
