hello there everyone
when i was a young boy, i lived in a small new hampshire town. my neighbors up the hill from us, their kids were avid comic readers. we all used to play with each other, of course. alot of my time was spent reading their comics....magnus drew my attention the most. i believe that they had the entire gold key collection. i also became a fan of rai....the future force, and harbinger. as time went on, i had outgrew my childhood, but not about magnus. after a couple of kids, i met up with one of my oldest son's friends and through her, i learned that valiant was going out of business. so, i put in an order for as many magnus, rai, future force and harbinger comics i could get. later i found that none of the magnus comics were of the gold key label. happy with what i had though...i set upon reading them, reaquainting myself with my old friend.
yes, i was very careful not to damage them in any way! i was given sleeves and backboards to put them in and i boxed them. i had forgotten about them until i came across a website that showed me the entire database....i took them back out and took inventory.....i was missing quite a few. i then started my hunt for the elusive gold key 4000a.d. set.
to date, i have only one....the 1968 reprint of #1. i didn't care what condition it was in, although it is a bit beat up, but it's still very much intact. when i opened the sleeve it came in, i almost died....the smell was guastly.....it smelled like *SQUEE*! it must have been in a cellar or something.
i'm still on the lookout for the books, but i've got limited cash flow, so it will just be a slow hunt. i am rather new at this collecting thing, but it's starting to look like my third hobby. my first hobby is the bass guitar and my second is computer gaming. we've had most of the other game systems, but i find the computer the most fun. i hope to learn something here.....and from what i've read so far....i think i will meet some interesting people. with that said....i also read that i should mention "ice cream"
no particular flavor...i like them all....even vanilla on some warm apple pie

WOW....thanx! that's good to know. i had read something to that effect, but somehow i thought they wern't the same. i only have that one original gold key issue and although it smells like it came from some anal dungeon, holding that piece of history in my hands brought me back to the last time i held it.....it's been a long time....some 40 years to {almost} be exact. i'll still try to collect them....even if it's just for the thrill of being able to say to myself: I got it!

If the archiving of Magnus by DH is comparable to their work on Dr Solar, then I think you won't be disappointed, as the paper quality feels nice, the colours are vivid and those fabulous painted covers are reproduced sans trade dress, allowing a litlte marvelling at them alone.iggy101us wrote:BTW, if you just want to read the Gold Key issues, Dark Horse reprinted all of them in hardcovers.

thanks everyone!!! yes, i see there are a lot of magnus fans here. i feel at home already. looking at my first post here, i noticed that the scope of "words you can't say on television" is quite broad.....i do apologize for the inuendo, it is duely noted and will be addressed. i am a very light hearted and comical person....love to joke and laugh. sometimes, i do tend to come across as a bit of a sailor...not suprising because popeye is my favorite cartoon charater, being able to talk and laugh like he does. my kids loved it when they were small, but now i seem to do it just about anywhere, much to the shurgrin of my wife and boys. the folks i work with like it too i guess, they laugh when i let him out......mostly during tense moments, or when a little jockularity is in order. i love it...it kills the moment just like that! yes, laughter is the best medicine.[/img]
