Solar, Magnus, etc., outside the Valiant Universe
Maybe it's just me, but I really could give a rat's *SQUEE* to read new stories for these characters outside of the Valiant Universe. I never gave a crap about any of those old Gold Key stories, the only thing that made them interesting to me was their context inside the VU from the 1990s.
So it doesn't really matter to me whether or not DH produces new books with those characters, even if Shooter is the writer. I would much rather see them back in the VU or not at all.
Not gonna happen, I know. I'll just keep waiting for VH 3 or 4 or whatever the hell it is going to be called.[/i]

Yea, that's gonna kind of suck that Solar wont be Phil but Shooter's a good writer so hopefully it'll be cool anyway but I know what you mean. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm Def more interested/excited to read new BloodShot/X-O/A&A/EW's/Q&W/Shadowman books..hopefully they bring in tallent that knows and understands the Valiant Universe..

I cared less about these characters too when they were coming out, but have to say i did end up loving stories on Magnus and Solar, but admittedly was never that blown away by Turok in any part of the VU.
As for DH putting books out with these as the lynchpin, well ill give it a go simply on the same basis as a lot of folks here, believing Shooter can replicate his previous success when given free reign.
maybe he really can do it all over again, stranger things have happened.
Also its the respect for what Shooter did in the first year or so and how that still lives on many many years later.
That love is almost as strong in itself as the love for Valiant overall.

I liked the GK characters before Valiant (at least until Whitman got involved), but Jim breathed some much needed life into Magnus and Solar. I was disappointed in Turok after the series came out, but that was after Jim had been given the boot. We really didn't get to see much of the character under Jim's tenure, but I did like what little he did get to be involved with.

I've read the majority of Dr. Solar from Gold Key, and they are not bad, just dated. I really want to read some of Russ Manning Magnus issues at some point. But, yea, they are from the 1960s, and the stories are very, very simple with not much in way of continuity (at least with the Dr. Solar stories). At the time, I imagine, reading a Marvel comic and a Gold Key was like night and day. It was obvious that in the 1960s Marvel was written for a slightly older demographic than Gold Key was.
But, the concepts are great, and that's why JS was able to breathe new life into them. Hopefully he will again with the Dark Horse stuff.

No. I am refering to the material that Jim is accused (for some reason , a few people around here think that VEI accusations are the absolute truth) to have deleted from the supposed laptop in the lawsuit. What is he supposed to do just give these no-namers a free universe and have what happened with Valiant happen all over again ? "Here you go kids .... a freebee on Ol'Uncle Jim !" ?????? I would delete the *SQUEE* too.

What would that be? You don't know anything about me, or VEI for that matter. Who's everyone? Well If Jim Did Work For them for the time that they mapped out and he got paid then of course they should own that material but we are going down a speculative road there. Thanks for clearing that up tho, I thought you were insunuating that VEI stole Valiant from Shooter.

Clearly we don't all agree, but this talk of shills is silly.

Back to the topic, I am a much bigger fan of magnus and solar within the context of the valiant universe than I am merely of the characters.
Some thing that has been on my mind a bit: yes, the GK3 are valuable to the Valiant Universe. Clearly.
How valuable is the Valiant Universe to the GK3? I think that some of the success of these characters in the VH-1 years was due tot the fact that they were part of a bigger universe.
Nobody can really know for sure, and it depends on a ton of other things, but I think that a relaunch of Magnus and Solar would be more successful in the context of the Valiant Universethan on their own.
...or maybe my preferences are coloring my opinion.

I don't know if that possibility has been talked about before on here, but that actually does sound interesting.wrunow wrote:I didn't care for the GK stories either, but I am sure DH is planning on creating a universe with new characters to spin off into their own titles like the original VALIANT universe, that's why they stole Shooter probably.
[completely ignoring all legal entanglements for now]
If Shooter were to take those characters and spin another universe off them, well, then I probably would follow along. I'd much rather see the Valiant U continue to grow, but that is the type of storytelling that would pique my interest.

His motives being that his opinion is clearly biased ...... so to sit here and expect to people not to defend a biased point is unreasonable.
Yes its true we all don't agree but users who are continually subjected to a biased point of view from the friend of one of the owners should be able to argue that point.
Which I'm doing.

If stories were on the Computer that VEI provided Shooter then THOSE stories or idea's DO belong to VEI...it wasn't FREE. We was paid for his work. Period. It was Jim choice to Leave VEI as EIC. If I was VEI I would have also asked for the laptop back. I highly doubt that emails to his friends are what VEI is concerned about.
Work Done during his time at VEI are property of VEI. If he deleted the info from the computer then I would be upset also.
