question on value, wooden pyramd card box artists proof0/100
I grew up next door to bruce gowdy the creator of the pyramid card boxes and he knew that I liked valiant comics when I was younger so when he created the 100 boxes he gave one of them to his son, and he gave me the artists proof. I was just curious how much that might be worth, it's signed by gowdy on the bottom just like all the othrs except for that its numbered 0/100 any info would be appriciated, thanks.

Been too long since any was for sale to say, and a proof is a different animal anyway. Only ebay could tell you the value.bizenboat wrote:I grew up next door to bruce gowdy the creator of the pyramid card boxes and he knew that I liked valiant comics when I was younger so when he created the 100 boxes he gave one of them to his son, and he gave me the artists proof. Are you looking to just "know" the value as in sort of getting it appraised, or are you interested in selling it and just not wanting to get taken advatage of?
I am asking because if it's the former, I don't know that it can be accurately appraised given the reasons magnur stated above and the current fluctuations in the comic collectibles market and the overall economy.
I know probably everyone here would love to have what you have as it sounds truly unique and might do well in an auction type format and you could even put a reserve on it. You lose nothing this way. I'm just not sure it would bring as much now as it would have a couple of years ago because a growing number of us seem to be running out of disposable cash.

Boy this dredges up a rather unfortunate discussion and situation with Mr. Gowdy. Not going to go there.
Truthfully, the item doesn't hold any value to me. The notierity of the box sets was their provenance as being given out to VIPs at an industry VIP event. While the boxes are well crafted and works of art in their own right, that process is not why I own one.
I agree with Magnus - seems like the perfect item for eBay if you do not get any offers you like here. My opinion is that you are not looking at a anywhere near a $600 sale.

Well I feel like I'd rather sell it here if i do sell it so yeah..the later is what i'd want to do, not get hella ripped off. I've been out of the comic game for a long time while I was in the navy so I don't entirely know whatsup. But I really appriciate the info thanks guys. But I guess still not set on selling it yet but it's a big possibility cause I need some cash too eheh. anyways thanks guys.

Wow, $250-400 feels low but I'm really not looking to spend much more money on original Valiant stuff. I think many others probably feel the same with VEI's communication being as it is and the economy...Rufusharley wrote:It being an artist proof I personally don't believe really adds any value. It's already a very rare piece of valiant history. My personal guess on a price right now would be around $250-400. I'm not an expert on these things but they seldom if ever come up for sale.
