New Universe Price Guide

Post by StarBrand »

I'm beginning to work on a brand new New Universe price guide. It'll probably take me a few weeks to finish. The price guide will be published on my New Universe site, and will be updated monthly.
My guide will be heavily influenced by both Mile High prices and mycomicshop prices, along with individual eBay sales. Also, I'll use general New Universe knowledge I've compiled on back issues over the years.
Here's a brief eye-opener. These are mycomicshop prices for nm books. They may not seem like a big deal at first glance, but five years ago mycomicshop didn't sell a single New Universe book for over a dollar.

Kickers Inc.
1 .98
2 3.60
3 4.49
4 4.49
5 4.49
6 3.60
7 .98
8 .98
9 .98
10 3.60
11 .98
12 3.60

Spitfire And The Troubleshooters
1 3.60
2 5.40
3 .98
4 .98
5 3.60
6 4.49
7 4.49
8 4.49
9 3.60
10 o/s
11 3.60
12 .98
13 .98

Interesting!

I was going to suggest taking Mile High's prices with a grain of salt. You would do better to take ebay sales versus mycomicshop.

Also, might I suggest looking up New Universe titles at Torpedo Comics (www.torpedocomics.com). They have a wonderful section called the Monolith tha tfeatures VF-NM books for 99 cents. Its the most common stuff you'll ever find but I love using them to see what is truly common and they have hundreds of copies of. If its not in the Monolith, it goes into the Vault for a higer price. I think Vault prices get a little wonky but again, its cool to research what they consider 'less common'.

Thanks very much for your post, and thanks also for that link to Torpedo Comics. I'll check that out.
Mile High Comics most likely sells the most New Universe comics of any dealer, if not, they're probably a close second to mycomicshop. I therefore feel, although they represent the high end of prices on New Universe sales, at least in many cases, their prices should be factored in because they make lots of actual New Universe sales. True, this will make the New Universe prices higher in the price guide by my factoring in Mile High prices, at least in many cases, but my guide is not to say a patient, astute buyer can't beat the prices in the guide if making a New Universe purchase, but it is a guide to hopefully accurately reflect what the books are selling for in the market, including at Mile High. I'm also of the notion Overstreet should respect Mile High's prices more when making their price guide, and have been of that mind for some time, and for the same reasons. This is not to say, of course, my guide will be comprised of Mile High prices, but rather they will be factored in as a seller that sells lots of New Universe books. I'll also be heavily relying on mycomicshop and eBay. I'll take a look at other sellers also, like Torpedo. :thumb:

Those are not all the NM prices. Most of the comics you list at above a dollar are the suff mycomicshop.com is selling in 9.6 and 9.8. Spirefire 2 in NM9.4 is still 0.98 for example.

Good eye. I hadn't noticed that. I'll watch for that.
Three of the Spitfire books listed at 3.60 are NM according to mycomicshop, but four of the books listed above .98 are NM/M or better according to them.
Thanks for your help. That's a change mycomicshop has made, listing books above 9.4. I'll have to watch for that. In my opinion they would've been better off staying away from calling any of their books above 9.4, as less than 50% of their books they grade in NM are even NM.
