Wish you could remember how you got it. I think it's more likely that you picked it up off the stands at your LCS - with your LCS owner not realizing it was meant for him as a gold book. We know these were sitting on the top of freshly cracked cases of BS #0 (oops! edit:)GOLD.

I think you would remember it if Valiant sent you something in the mail. IMHO!

yup, alot of people seem to be allergic to that button for some odd reason tho, I usually just get people buying at full price instead of making offers.

I do get offers tho, dont get me wrong, it's just suprising how many people just don't seem to acknowlege the best offer option.

Oh, I know what you mean, I was just pointing that out to the people who are (playfully, I'm sure) balking at the $5500 BIN.

I had someone hit a BIN for an item that had less than 20 minutes left and no bids, with the BIN a good $10+ more than the starting bid.

i usually put bin on most everything but put it higher then i expect to get but occasionally i get a hit on it for 1 and a half what i wanted for it

Yeah, I'm about as hopeful to get the BIN price as I was to get it graded 9.8. Doesn't mean I'm not crossing my fingers and throwing coins into wishing wells.

The thing is, according to a friend of mine whose big into collectibles, he says the few weeks just before comic-con you can find auctions much cheaper than normal because buyers are saving up and not nearly as many are willing to spend the cash just before the mass convergence on San Diego.

And by setting a fixed price with best offer I can run the auction for 30 days, nicely letting folks know its out there before comic-con and possibly still be active and for sale when either dealers come flush from comic-con sales or buyers come back having not spent as much as they'd planned.

Yeah, I know I'm just rationalizing to myself, but it could happen.

A normal auction with incremental bidding can only run for seven (or maybe ten?) days. In which case, I'd probably have waited until after comic-con to even put it up.

I can't say for certain that's not what happened but you should factor in how many brain cells I've killed since then (four years of college have a habit of wiping out a lot of high school). But I definitely remember my effort to earn a gold logo book. I'm fairly certain they sent me something because I remember the disappointment of not seeing my picture in the back page of issues. And I remember my friend Rob used to have a Unity #1 Gold and I think I may have been kinda disappointed with the Bloodshot. I probably had a dozen copies of issue one (who can forget the floating chromium box that was just itching to be peeled) and at least two or three of zero already.

To be honest, I can't even remember when or why I stopped collecting comics. Probably a mix of Magic the Gathering and regular sex with my girlfriend meant sacrifices had to be made.

Your story for my Bloodshot Platinum's origins probably makes more sense to you and my story for it makes more sense to me. I know in the future, unless I find out or figure out the truth, I'll probably stick with telling mine.

I would suggest, if you dont get what you want right away, I would hold onto the book. Once the economy picks up you will the price you want.

Being that it last sold for 5 g's you might consider selling it for 3 or 4 considering the economy. It'd still be all profit

My expectations are much more in the 3-4 range than in the 5 one. But I want to see what kind of offers I get. If somehow at the end of the auction I haven't accepted any offer, I may just put it up for normal open bidding auction.

As for the state, I'm in Indiana (which I know is an area others have turned up in).

And was it ever even confirmed that this was a test run book/misprint? Because I'm not sure how much more likely it is that they'd send me a test run book/misprint as it is that they'd include them in shipments to dealers (i.e., maybe it's that either they considered them as "gold logo" books and sent them out to 'gold logo' recipients or they didn't).

I'm just working off speculation and (potentially constructed) memory here. If anyone knows specifics on how Valiant handled gold logo distribution or how these were manufactured and got sent out beyond just speculation, feel free to tell me how wrong I am.

Could someone who worked there have kept a log of the fans they sent out "gold logo" comics to and/or featured in their back page? I know dealers ordering in bulk got them often but someone had to pick and write up that mini-column about the dork of the month.

All good points, but ones that we have considered. There are a few things we KNOW:

- Misprints of the regular edition have a cover price.

- A Valiant employee's best recollection is that it was a limited test run of the gold book and it was not intended to be an official variant. No valiant employee we have heard from remembers a second official variant of BS 0.

- Someone claiming to be an employee of the printer made the same claim about the test run. (He also claimed to have a number of them and it's unclear how much this can be trusted.)

- One has been found, by a board member, as the top book in an unopened case of BS 0s GOLDs.

- From people who visited the Voyager offices when they closed, we know there was a room in the main office where promo and special items were kept. They were distributed by the office staff from that storeroom.

So, while it may seem unlikely, we know they were put in BS0 GOLD cases for whatever reason. Is it just as unlikely they would have been given out as promo items to dedicated fans? This is a matter of opinion at this point. My opinion is that it's possible, but unlikely, given what we know.

Who would have received BS0 GOLD cases? A logical conclustion would be the distributors. Diamond, Capital. They would have included gold books to dealers at their discretion. Could cases of BS0 GOLD ended up in the storeroom of the Voyager offices. Surely. My thought is that the misprint would be noticed there. The gold is missing! Toss it!

It's really quite simple, there's only one buyer that would pay the BIN on your auction so your only hope is that this buyer is around and willing to pay that same amount again. You could leave it up there forever and he may buy another around the last price, or you can see what offers (if any you receive).

The problem(s) with sky-high BINS with offers is that it appears the seller is putting in the exuberant BIN to milk as much as they can with the offer and isn't really being reasonable.

Case in point look at these:

These BINS are so far out of the stratosphere in their respective value that no one will even bother since a fair price is 1/5th the BIN value.

I know it's a sky-high BIN price, but can anyone tell me what's the market like for a B0plat 9.8? Have any been sold since derbycitycomics' one went for $5500?

Weren't they selling for 2-3 thousand before then and the price just kept climbing?

I'd think when it comes to something as rare as this the only standard to go by is the price the last one sold at.

For what it's worth, I based my dream/BIN price on the assumption that $5500 was what the last 9.8 sold at.
