Dave Cockrum Defiant pages...$25 bucks each
I hit HeroesCon in Charlotte yesterday and stopped by Paty Cockrum's table to say hi.
I was stunned to see a stack of about 20 Defiant "Home for the Holidays" Dave Cockrum pages on her table for $25 each or $20 each if you bought more than one.
I had zero fundage and no way to pick them up, so I had to leave them.
I know some of you guys are not only Defiant/Plasm fans, but also original art fans to boot and the opportunity to own Dave Cockrum pages (hell, ANYTHING by Dave) would be a wonderful thing.
I don't have Paty's email address, but I'm sure you could get in touch with her somehow if you were interested in buying some...or all, of what she had.
Here's a pic...these are some seriously nice pages.

The sad thing is: Defiant is considered low-level crap or just plain garbage by most fans and retailers. It's really only us the Jim Shooter Fans, the Defiant Comics Fans, and/or the Dead Universe Fans that seem to really care about it. I mean J.G. Jones, who is one of the hottest artists on the planet right now, can't seem to give away his Defiant (and Broadway too for that matter) orginal artwork.magnusr wrote:She should be able to get more.cinlach@aol.com wrote:I was stunned to see a stack of about 20 Defiant "Home for the Holidays" Dave Cockrum pages on her table for $25 each or $20 each if you bought more than one.

Crazy thing about collecting DUs ? I have found MANY now famous artists working on those $.25 bin diving books or yore. People like Paul Gulacy, Mike Dedado (sp), Bart Sears, J.G. Jones, Greg Horn, Adam Hughes, and some writers coming up with the most simple of plot lines for some obscure book. It appears that people don't care about where artists/writers come from (and who they owe their break into comics from), but the hot stuff they are doing now, yes... probably due to the fact they are MUCH better than from back then. Me ? I would love to own some of the 'learning years' work that some of our current pros worked on in the past. It would be GREAT to have some Paul Gulacy total CRAP pages... hehehe, go to a convention and show it to them with a 'congrats, man. You have gotten WAY better. No wonder you were drawing for McDonald's kids activity books.' heheheCyberstrike wrote:The sad thing is: Defiant is considered low-level crap or just plain garbage by most fans and retailers. Classic....
And for those prices and considering who the artists is... those pages look very appealing.

Please put me in touch with J.G. Jones. I am very willing to give him a fair price for Braodway art. I have a hard time finding any of it!Cyberstrike wrote:The sad thing is: Defiant is considered low-level crap or just plain garbage by most fans and retailers. I've got his business card around here somewhere... we were working a deal as I was wanting to buy his copy of the Fatale HC TPB, and he was thinking about it. I'll have a looksee and I NEED to finalize if he is going to do this or not.geocarr wrote:Please put me in touch with J.G. Jones. I am very willing to give him a fair price for Braodway art. You have to stay on these things, I had a lot of 'things' going on with JayJay and let some time slip by and 'swiiiiipe' someone comes in and there you are sitting there on the end of the telephone line with that big ol 'WTF ?' look on your face. I was kinda torqued for a while because a couple of times when things were bad, I had sent her some stuff to help her out.... so ya gotta stay on these things, but man, I hate to be pushy about some stuff.
I had a deal going with Joe Quesada to buy all of his remaining Ninjak art and his middle man Spencer got involved and blammo there I am bent over the table with my Levis around my ankles.
Just a word to the wise folks. Word to the wise.

Yeah, I here you. I've had hell trying to close an artist direct deal recently and still dealing with it. But it's worth a try. I appreciate it if you do come across that business card.Knightt wrote:I've got his business card around here somewhere... we were working a deal as I was wanting to buy his copy of the Fatale HC TPB, and he was thinking about it. You can probably write FANFARE and get them to ask J.G. Jones to put some Broadway stuff up for sale. I bought a couple J.G. Jones Defiant pages from them.
Also, I found an email for Paty Cockrum on the internet that was in use 7-8 months ago, but so far after almost 2 weeks, no response so I think maybe it's no longer in use? Anyone else have any luck??
