Ghost TPbs, confusing and frustrating

Comic universes no longer active, Bravura, Continuity, CrossGen, Future, Malibu, Ultraverse... and others that are 'no longer with us' today (or only recently brought back).

Ghost TPbs, confusing and frustrating

Post by Elveen »

So I finally got all the Ghost TPBs. Then checked out the issue #s. Uggh!

Ghost Stories - Comics Greatest World Arcadia Week 3, Ghost Special (1), X 8
Ghost Nocturnes - Ghost Vol. 1 #s 1, 2, 3 and 5
Ghost Black October - Ghost vol. 1 #s 6, 7, 8, 9, 26 and 27
Ghost Exhuming Elisa - Ghost vol. 1 #s 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25
Ghost Painful Music - Ghost vol. 1 #s 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32
Ghost No World So Dark - Vol 2 # 1-5

How dumb is that? Look at the 1st TPB. Issue #4 is not included. :? I was thinking that I would be able to get rid of the individual comics and have the story in the trades.

Does anyone else find this strange?

It does seem strange, but not too uncommon of the past.
This was a time before all books were tailored to go into TPB's, so the story arcs and ongoing sagas sometimes look a bit weird in the issue selection when reprinting.

If you check the Gaiman Sandman Library of TPB's you will find the series is not exactly reprinted in perfect order.

I trade as Dead Universe Comics in the UK, which is no surprise to those who know of my legendary Dead Universe habit.

There is also the possibility that it appears in another title as a crossover as that happens quite a lot. Did the character appear with anyone else around that time?

Mayhaps and wow, those trades are way out of order if you read them in that order. Issue # 4 is a crossover with Barb Wire (the real one, not the in-name-only version from that Pam Anderson travesty) and it sets up much of the next 8 issues. #10-19? What can I say. That's the meat of the story. The entire basis of the"Exhuming Elisa" story is contained there. As for 33-36, that is vital as it introduces a major element in the second volume. DH didn't do a good job with the old trades. They've gotten a lot better. By miles. The comment, btw, about Sandman being out of chrono order, is on target.
