Re: Star Brand
Definately the original, I'm normally a fan of Warren Ellis' work, but his New Universal just didn't do anything for me.StarBrand wrote:I totally agree! DP 7 was one of my all-time favorite titles. I was hoping VEI would be so successful someone at Marvel would get the bright idea of bringing back the original New Universe to compete with them.J-Scott-R wrote:Another book with that Valiant feel for me is D.P. 7, I've read through the first 12 issues now, and I think anyone who likes Harbinger will also find it an enjoyable readStarBrand wrote:See everyone! Knightt agrees the New Universe has that Valiant 'feel'! I'm not saying Valiant didn't for the most part take things to the next level than the New U was able to achieve for various reasons, but I am surprised more Valiant fans don't investigate the New Universe and such books as Star Brand by Shooter.Knightt wrote:That Valiant 'feel' is what led me to collecting/reading New Universe to begin with.StarBrand wrote:Aside from the amazing feat of starting a thread with the same title as my user id, I really wanted to address a deep mystery. I believe I brought this up a year or two ago somewhere already, but don't believe I got a satisfactory answer, as no one seems to belive me on this enough to actually go out and risk the couple bucks it would take to see if my recommendation on this matter is correct. Why aren't Valiant fans interested in reading Star Brand from the New Universe, particularly the first seven issues? The first six issues were written by Shooter, and issue seven was written by Roy Thomas off a Shooter plot. I suspect this is the closest thing to Valiant-like enjoyment available this side of Valiant. I will say this; they are my favorite comics of all-time, having captured that same comic book magical feeling I used to experience as a kid..
