5 issues for a buck is a very nice deal as long as they are in good shape.Cyberstrike wrote:It was a 5 (or 6) single issues for $1 deal and the same dealer also a near mint copy of Marvel Graphic Novel #3: Dreadstar first printing for $10!Knightt wrote:Eh, it just came up... I thought I was getting a few last week but it didnt work out, so I reposted.

There were a lot of dealers at the show were doing those kind of deals.Knightt wrote:5 issues for a buck is a very nice deal as long as they are in good shape.Cyberstrike wrote:It was a 5 (or 6) single issues for $1 deal and the same dealer also a near mint copy of Marvel Graphic Novel #3: Dreadstar first printing for $10!Knightt wrote:Eh, it just came up... There was another dealer had a deal 6 books $1 (all bagged and bored BTW) and he had a beautiful copy The Protectors #1 but I had to buy five other books to get and I couldn't find anything else to buy and he refused to sell me just the copy of The Protectors #1 even when I offered a dollar just for it.
The conditions of the Dreadstar books were decent from what I saw but they weren't bagged and bored though.
Thats insane... he coulda made 'some' money.Cyberstrike wrote:There were a lot of dealers at the show were doing those kind of deals.Knightt wrote:5 issues for a buck is a very nice deal as long as they are in good shape.Cyberstrike wrote:It was a 5 (or 6) single issues for $1 deal and the same dealer also a near mint copy of Marvel Graphic Novel #3: Dreadstar first printing for $10!Knightt wrote:Eh, it just came up... You know, that makes absolutely no sense, why would he turn down $1 for the one book? You should have just grabbed five other books and threw them in the garbage (or gave them away) if you didn't want them.
Now now, different strokes for different folks. Hell, I have not purchased something from a whacked out LCS just because they were anal, *SQUEE*, @ssmunch or a ball-sack and I would not help their chances of staying in business with one red cent of mine.Brother J wrote:Cyberstrike wrote: There were a lot of dealers at the show were doing those kind of deals.

I have run into that though up in Tucson, 20 books for x amount of bucks and even though that one book was missing made me go back and pick up another book, I simply picked the first thing in the box and went from there... I guess LCS owners have to feel like they at least have some form of control in the world. Really nice LCS owners are few and far between.
I once thought very heavily about becoming an LCS owner but long ago a friend of mine laid it out to me as I asked about his collection, he said 'I had to stop collecting. It was either become an LCS owner or be a collector. One day to pay the rent you will have to sell something that is your favorite piece and you have to be ready for that.'
At that point, I said that when I retire, I would stay the collector... we have ONE LCS here and he is SUCH an *SQUEE* (one thing that really bugs me is that he was SUPPORT to Special Forces during Desert Storm and back then even support personnel were allowed to wear the Green Beret, so he has posted on a plaque on a wall in his shop in a case, his Green Beret, his ribbon rack that while yes he has a Bronze Star it does not bear the "V" decice unlike mine twice over, so he makes sure that every once in a while he makes sure to point out 'oh hey, I was a Green Beret, you know' and some unknowing kid is just amazed at this GENERATOR MECHANIC who says he was a Green Beret. I would make it a habit of putting on my 'don't f@ck with me uniform' (i.e. all tabs, badges etc) and go into his shop and with a large group of people just go ahead and ask where he went to school, what class number, what was your worst phase, what was your MOS (job)... OOPS then it all comes out, I have never seen a Special Force generator mechanic in the MOS book. What would that be 18G ? hahaha aaaanyways) and knows he has the monoply on this town. When I retired I was going to open up a really nice shop, and really try to make it user friendly (but that would also mean I would have to become really knowledgable about all the damn 'card games' that seems to fill HIS shop on a weekly/daily basis). Then is clicked as to what was told to me years ago... collector or businessman ? I chose to be a collector but believe me, if I WAS an LCS owner/dealer or whatever the fat, headful of useless knowledge, smelly, virgins that pass for the crappy side of LCS owners with that anal retention in which cyberstrike spoke of... I would be one of the cooler guys. GIVE a couple books away. Bring your kid into my shop and by God, the little one will walk away with a comic, some cards and a Heroclix to be SURE. And by all means, you would NOT find me wearing a superhero t-shirt to work (well, how about the same one for a week in a row with multiple levels of sweat stain on the armpits.
I remember back in the 90s, there were some pretty cool places... and you KNEW that they would treat you like GOLD and you KNEW that anything that was not recent merchandise and had a sticker price on it, you could haggle a buck or two to get the price down. Things were pretty good back in the early 90s... now that comics are all the rage in the movies, why have the 'NO, it is 6 for a dollar' stooges came out of the woodwork instead of the cool guys.
hehehe, I remember walking out of an LCS at Fort Bragg, NC with my oldest son (Lord he is now 18) and saying, "Hey you gonna keep 'whatever it was that I thought was cool' ?" And he knew the deal, he woud look up to me and say, "Stand down, Ranger... get you're own freebies !!"
Ahh good times, good times...

I have to be very picky on what single issue comics I buy because it may mean that another book doesn't get bought because storage space is extremely limited now in the case of Genesis and Impact Comics I can make room for them.Brother J wrote:Cyberstrike wrote: There were a lot of dealers at the show were doing those kind of deals.

Besides I bought a $5.00 copy of The Walking Dead vol. 1 TPB and $10.00 for a good condition of Transformers G1 Frenezy action figure (those are hard to find) from the same dealer.
Oh Knightt feast your eyes on this:

You have got to go talk to Ed in Amarillo one of these days.Knightt wrote:Really nice LCS owners are few and far between.
No bargain bin, but he's a good guy. He doesn't like bargain bins because he feels they devalue all comics. I was telling him all the stuff I was buying for a quarter to fifty cents in Denver and he couldn't believe it.
There are guys out there that STILL have Superman #75 for over $150 bucks because of what is sold for IN THE PAST. "oh but this is a $150 book.", Knightt: "No you're a freakin' whack-job, it is a $10-$15 dollar book, now get over it."Chiclo wrote:You have got to go talk to Ed in Amarillo one of these days.Knightt wrote:Really nice LCS owners are few and far between.
