It's probably not a popular statement, but I have finally gotten around to reading some of Nicieza's Valiant Heroes stuff and it's pretty good!
Granted, it's not pre-Unity Valiant, and it is a little super hero-y, but there are some good stories (especially Bloodshot, Eternal Wariors, and what I've read of Magnus so far).

It's a cohesive universe that was definitely better than the other stuff that was coming out at the time, and I'd venture to say is better than most the later Valiant books.

Perhaps I've said too much.

I like Master Darque/Darque Passage Solar, Q&W, the EWs, Bloodshot. I didn't like Magnus that much though. Other ones I didn't like are Ninjak and Trinity Angels.

The late 90s were bad all over in the comics industry.

Look at the flagship Marvel books of the era - X-Men, Spiderman and stuff like that. The art is cartoonish to the point of garish. The writing was weak. DC reflected that, too. Doesn't take much to be great in that climate.

My appreciation for the VH2 stuff is pretty well known. Mind you, I'm not necessarily a fan of it in place of VH1, but let's face it, VH1 was pretty crappy at the end there.

A fresh take was a good thing (especially since there were plans to bring VH1 back into the fold - some of it at least).
Best revamps were Bloodshot, EWs, Darque, Solar and some of X-O.

One thing that stood out to me about VH2 was how much I liked some of the non-revamped stuff. Q&W, Doc Tomorrow, Troublemakers, Operation Stormbreaker. Some good stuff there.

The VH2 version of Harbinger was a joke, but a different visual take on the characters might have made it a little better.

Wow, I didn't know that typing "V-H-1" and "V-H-2" on the boards resulted in them being presented as VH1 and VH2.

What happens if type "U2K" is it replaced with *SQUEE*?

I am known for not reading books until I have the whole collection and my Acclaim collection still has quite a few holes in it BUT what I have read here and there (just couldnt help myself), I will admit that I liked what I read. Sure it was not the old Valiant but still it had a flavor to it (yes, some would say $hit flavored) but I will say... a different flavor. It IS very fun to collect these though. :thumb:

Do NOT get me started on Unity 2000 (and Starlin is among my favorite artists but THIS series... ugh, IMO this is something that should have never been printed, sorry to say).

The whole project just seemed phoned in to me. The art was *horrible*!!!
But that is another rant.

VH2 was darn good. Not all of it, but quite a bit of it.
Personally, I loved seeing how they were going to bring in aspects of the old Valiant. Kind of like a 'what if?' or 'elseworlds' story. MOTA and the Darquw special were just awesome, like the Rai 0 of VH2.

Even the series that I didn't care for all that much the first time around (like Ninjak) were better on a re-read. There were a lot of subtleties in VH2 that many people overlooked.

I've enjoyed the Eternal Warriors books, Bloodshot, Q&W, and Shadowman Vol.3 as much as anything from VH1 to be honest.

The books I couldnt wait to read were Bloodshot... and I LOVED it.

I just look at the whole Acclaim thing as an alternate universe.

VH-2 was an alternate universe.

And it was a pretty d@mned sweet one, at that.

It just wasn't VALIANT. But it never claimed to be, either.

Bloodshot vs X-O was wicked!

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Acclaim's Ninjak was good. Light-hearted and definitely not VALIANT, but a fun book nonetheless.

There is quite a bit of good stuff among the Acclaim books. Granted there is a lot of bad stuff as well, but some of the ideas were very good.

I actually liked the premise of the Acclaim Turok (at least the one shot books) and Bloodshot better than the original. Shadowman eventually turned into a worthwhile read too. I would say that I liked Mike LeRoi just as much as Jack Boniface portraying Shadowman. Eternal Warriors had a neat premise also. I liked the Valiant version of Solar better, but Acclaim the version had it's good points too.

X-O, Magnus, N.I.O, Ninjak,Trinity Angels on the other hand...ugh.

For me the standouts were: EWs, Shadowman (late VH2 and vol 3), the Master Darque stuff was very good. The Solar stuff was above average.

The Q&W that I have read was middle of the road.

There is a bunch that I have not read. I do think that the Harby re-boot could have been good but the art was just not my taste.

They really should because it's a great story with few copies in circulation. I just bought a copy of #6 for $20 from doorman so I can finally ready the "whole" story.

They actually had more issues already in the works, but they never got released.

They totally ruined Harbinger. I'm glad it was only one issue.

Maybe because *SQUEE* is translated as U2K?
