Well, it's only the Masterpieces that really command prices. Most of the Marvel Universe sets sell for a couple bucks, although again some of the '95 and '96 stuff moves for a little more.

The X-Men chase cards do OK... they did a lot better a couple years ago, though. Just ask Rubik's Q-Bert.

Which X-Men sets? The Jim Lee set with the Holos or the later Flair X-Men sets?

I traded RQB the '94 Fleer Ultra X-Men set with the chase-cards I had for some Rai comics, long story short - he later sold them on eBay and one of the chases I swear got dang near $100.....

:?

Hmm....I'll have to take a look at ebay. For that price, I'll pick me up a few extra sets.

Sets for the first two editions are pretty cheap on eBay. S-P is right, I was just doing "research" for my upcoming sales.

I bought a set of cards from the early 90s spoofing popular comics on eBay and they came in today. Good representation of Valiant, including a Solar 10 white spoof.

Defective comics is the name of the set.

That's what makes Marvel Masterpiece collecting nice. The final two pure year sets ('95 & '96) are a challenge - especially with the chase cards, but many of the other sets are somewhat affordable and leave you enough variant and promo cards to hunt down for fun.

Putting together full sets with all of the chase cards and promo stuff is a good hunt and makes for a great collection when it starts growing! I organize mine in the binder from page 1 of the thread in the following order:

1. Custom Checklist to include the set and all promo and chase cards
2. The set
3. Protoypes (if any)
4. Insert or Chase cards
5. Parallel set (if any)

It's pretty encompassing!

Are binder pages a better sell when trying to eBay such things? In other words, will people bid higher if the cards are in the pages???

I never really thought about it, but when I get card sets in I prefer to store them in individual boxes. But recently the wife has put all my card sets in pages. And then rearranges them.

And then she rearranged all my comic boxes and reorganized them and then asks me where something is because she can't find it.

The pages help when you take the picture because you can sort of fan them out for the photo. I don't much any stock in whether or not sets are shipped in pages though. Usually a card box with plastic for moisture protection around the inside is fine.

I don't think there's any correlation at all between final sale price and the presence of 9-pocket card pages within an auction.

Dammit! I keep forgetting to put up my card auctions!!!

:!:

I really want them to have two weekends' worth of exposure in the listings, so I can't do a 10-day auction tomorrow. It'll have to be Thursday or Friday...
