Pizza read Shadowman, it is Maxwell House.pizzaparty wrote:Can someone tell me which titles fell off or were never good to begin with?
I'm trying to re-read all Valiant (not Acclaim) since I stopped collecting after unity when i was younger.
I recently picked up a few gold issues and my reason being was I wanted them when I was a kid but didnt have the means to obtain them.
PS. I also threw out a bunch of Voices a few months before I discovered this board.

That is on my list as I read the first issues back in the 90's. Thanks!

I'd say that about Bloodshot too. Rather enjoyed the final issues.
Oh, and X-O can't forget those classics!

Classic lines like "Feel my power" that populate those 50-word issues.Elveen wrote:Classic what?hulk181man wrote:Elveen wrote:Pizza read Shadowman, it is Maxwell House.pizzaparty wrote:Can someone tell me which titles fell off or were never good to begin with?

i've got a complete run of the stories...sometimes i'm not sure why, since i'm not dying to read hard corps or psi-lords or secret weapons all the way through. i didn't spend more than $2 on any of the books that i picked up though. it was a few years ago, but i still believe that you can patiently put together a set of these on the cheap.
I've got several golds and vvss, but i got those cheap too. i get everything cheap, because, well, I am cheap.
i'd recommend that you continue to pick up the premium versions anytime that you can get a good deal and use them in trades here on the board to get the entire set as far as the story goes.
it's still fun to read some of these, just because you can think of all the ways they could've improved.

This might be the most awesome advice I've ever recieved here!dave wrote:i've got a complete run of the stories...sometimes i'm not sure why, since i'm not dying to read hard corps or psi-lords or secret weapons all the way through. i didn't spend more than $2 on any of the books that i picked up though. it was a few years ago, but i still believe that you can patiently put together a set of these on the cheap.

I love that logic. Seriously!

over the years I think I've had 3 complete runs of all the VH1 stuff (i didn't go for the premiums. Had a few, but mostly cared for the story lines).
Had a complete set of VH2/3 as well.
each time I'd sell/give away/lose a set in a move, I would eventually come back and end up buying another set.
This last time I got interested again, I just got digital copies of them.
Now, I can read them when I want, and don't have to worry about them taking up space in the house.
The only paper books I have left are the Q&W trades.

Re: (Possible) Stupid Question.
i havent read the whole thread but as a reader buy the standard issues if you want to be a completist then spend the xtra cash buy the premium issuesturborip wrote:Is there anyone here that only collects a specific portion of Valiant, say pre-Unity only or specific titles and screw the rest or is everyone here an absolute completeist?
I ask because I'm mostly having a crisis of self-doubt wondering if I'll ever bother finishing a complete run of Valiant due to the my ever decreasing comics budget and areas of interest. Yes, I want to read Magnus and Archer and Armstrong and finish getting the 5 issues of Shadowman I need, but should I ever really give a crap about a Geomancer VVSS or a Predator/Magnus trade or Valiant Voice? Or even series that have really expensive final issues but were hideous reads? That last part comes due to finding the final issue of Magnus but being quite unimpressed at the interiors.
Just wondering. Keep in mind, I'm coming at this as a pure reader anymore, not as a collector.
