We talk about the convention, have some friends from the board drop in to chat, and catch up with JayJay Jackson and Bernard Chang.

Oh, and some guy stopped by to talk about Valiant comics. I think his name was, uh, Jim Shooter or something like that.

Enjoy!
I have to say that this was by far the best podcast that ya'll have put out. Even with the audio problems, it was still a joy to listen to. I wasn't sure if it was my copy or all of them, but I guess I know now.

I think the best part for me was that I didn't read the whole description you had when I downloaded it, so I had no idea that there were going to be interviews, especially with Shooter. To be honest I didn't know what you guys were going to talk about, because I knew there was no VEI presence to talk about.

So, great job! :thumb:
I get it.

Somebody wants me to quit.
Oh, Chiclo... you know you're my favs! :thumb: I only think this last episode would have been better had you been a part of it. :D

FYI - The Only The Valiant website may be up and down over the next few days as I transfer the website from one webhost to another.

We will be recording again in a couple days, and the topic will be about Valiant's take on the future, mainly the world of 4001/4020. If you have any comments about this, please email them to onlythevaliant@gmail.com or shoot me a PM.

I have no problem if you guys want to spend a 1/3 or 1/4 of an episode talking about major non Valiant comics related news. The fact that you are fans of the good Valiant stuff means you're a better critic than anyone else in comics or mainstream movie reviews anyway.

I liked the talk about what the future is like in Valiant and the general world of the future. I think the same as you Sean that Valiant comics are really balanced with sci-fi and hero stuff. Way more than any other comics world ever has been. It's probably why I like them so much. Every original title including Turok and Bloodshot had at least some sci-fi element to it, even the one comic where they approached it like a "heroes team" was handled very scientifically and realistically.

Asimov to Magnus was a great comparison. Highlander to EW and A&A is another. X-0 is sci fi not just because of the alien armor but also because of the lead character being hundreds of years out of his time. He is almost like the Michael Valentine Smith character in Stranger in a Strange Land not knowing anything about the Earth but having massive power to wield.

The "caught in a nuclear reactor" thing is about as cliche a scientific hero origin as it gets, coincidentally Watchmen and Solar are the two that actually handled it in a somewhat realistic and logical way.

Can't wait for Rai 0 ep, that really is what got me started on Valiant when I read it. I just knew I had to get the back story on this wild history that I had read.

Thanks for the feedback, Knob!

I'm glad you don't mind the non-Valiant comics talk.

There may have to be a little more of it coming up if we are gonna keep having stuff to talk about..

And thanks for the nod to my "creating" Sven . . . I really just made a joke though . . you guys gave him life . . . :)

I really would like to hear your guys thoughts on new books coming out as well as the Valiant stuff . . . I still think a "Where are they now ?" segment could be done each episode for former Valiant alum . . .

The VALIANT stuff is great. But when they get off topic, I can't focus on the MP3.

They should do two podcasts one for VALIANT, the other for their sensless rants of indiscriminent, frivilous anticdotes.

I finished listening last night. I liked it.

I ca always appreciate historical discussions on government and economic systems.

I was expecting Utilitarianism, Jeremy Bentham, and John Stuart Mill to get into the discussion. Maybe even Robert Owen and New Harmony.

The show will never be free of indiscriminant, frivolous anecdotes, but I have gotten feedback that you guys like the show when it is more focused on the topic. I'm working to implement this, I know we have had some episodes unravel and become really off track. It is in all three of our's nature to bring up obtusely related stuff, so it will never completely go away. There should be a solid chunk of Valiant talk in each episode though, to meet or exceed the recommended daily value.

I even editted out some of the Russian history lesson ;)

"Anticdotes". I like this word ;)

You mean non-Valiant new books? I've been thinking about a segment called "recent reads" where we each talk about something we read recently, Valiant or (most likely) not.
I still think a "Where are they now ?" segment could be done each episode for former Valiant alum . . .
Food for thought..

Just listened to the new episode last night and I loved it! It's always pleasant for me when I go in thinking an episode is going to be less entertaining than usual just to be proven TOTALLY wrong... that's two in a row now.

I actually found the Watchmen reviews to be pretty good, I was expecting it to be more critical than it was... I agree that the new ending was not a good idea.

The talk about the future Valiant is what I was surprised by, though... I really didn't know what could be talked about it to make it interesting, but it was actually really informative... especially the off topic stuff. :thumb: The one thing that was left out that I would have really liked to seen discussed, though, was how ya'll feel VEI can approach the future now that Magnus can't be a part of it... does that eliminate North Am all together? Other than that, it was a really solid episode and time really flew while listening to it.

I believe the podcast logo is new (first time I noticed it) but that was another big plus. Very creative.

In Depth on Rai #0

It’s time for our 24th episode, and an in-depth look at one single issue, the eponymous Rai #0! We discuss:
  • The impact this issue had at the time, and our initial reactions when it came out
  • The story nuggets in this book, and where they show up in other Valiant books
  • The final fate of Shadowman… or not!
  • Inconsistencies between this book and later Valiant material
  • The auspicious editor column in this issue
  • Our One Year Anniversary! Congratulations us!
  • A brand new segment, Recent Reads
  • …and a whole lot more! This is a long one, buckle up!
Get the episode from the OTV site HERE. As a new feature, you can stream it directly over the internet by clicking the link to the file on the site.

you can right click/save as on the following to direct download it:

Good episode, guys. Rai #0 is definitely a topic that can take up a whole episode on its own. As has been proven it seems. I've fallen behind on listening lately, but recently downloaded 10 or so old episodes and will be listening to them shortly.

The new 'Recent Reads' section was okay and overall I'll give the episode 3.5 or 4 entertaimo's (out of 5) for being good, but not groundbreaking. Congratulations on one year worth of podcasts (for most of you at least  )!! Not bad considering they haven't gotten any new Valiant comics out yet for you to talk about. Hope that changes soon.
