Some of the best reads are from the DU

Comic universes no longer active, Bravura, Continuity, CrossGen, Future, Malibu, Ultraverse... and others that are 'no longer with us' today (or only recently brought back).

Hi guys,

Just stopped by to say hello. Like most of you, i love the old forgotten worlds. I love to read and some of the best stories are from the DU.

I'm glad most of you have not forgotten them.
Some of my personal favs :

Badger - First comics - Mike Barron is insane and a fun writer. Badger was my first intro to indie comics ! Great way to start.

Ralph Snart - Now Comics - Mr Lizard is KING !

Warriors of Plasma - Jim Shooter = greatness

Ruse - pretty good reading

PRIME - ultraverse - good stuff

Dinosaurs For Hire - malibu - good dirty marvel hating fun !

Post your favs !

Nice thread dude and very cool to have a new poster in the DU section indeed.

IM madly tied up and havent had a tenth of my normal allotted time to this board and particularly the DU sections.

I will be back in full force for two weeks time or so and with some cool news too.

IN the meantime just briefly i agree with all of the above and will add some more to it in the comig day when i have more than two mins to think.

heres a link to my crazy Du undertaking i started last year i will be adding some serious info to that in the coming month so stay tuned.

'Breed and 'Breed II from Bravura (Malibu) - more Starlin-y goodness.

Armor vol. 1 from Continuity - fun story out in space with aliens, superpowers and subterfuge. And Go-Go-Gogog.

Hardcase from Ultraverse - fun read, more serious than most of the other Ultraverse titles.

Catalyst: Agents of Change from CGW - mixing superheroes and politics

Dreadstar-Jim Starlin's dark cosmic saga is still a great read even after all these years. Marvel/Epic-Eclipse-First-Bravura/Malibu

Breed-A dark horror/sci-fi/fantasy story that only Jim Starlin can do so well. Malibu/Bravura

Breed II-A great sequel that continues the story. Malibu/Bravura

Wyrd-The Reluctant Warrior-Jim Starlin's political and social satire that was a little a head of it's time. SLG

Cosmic Guard-Starlin takes the orginal Captain Marvel type character and adds a new twist to it. Dynamite

Miracleman-Alan Moore's masterpiece on superheroes is in some ways more complex and more disturbing than Watchmen and is a great read. Neil Gaiman had the challenge of following up Moore and shows how great he is as well. Eclipse

Barry Windsor-Smith: Storyteller]-3 different stories by BWS each one is great on itself and each has great characters in it. Dark Horse-Fantagraphics

Deity-Equal parts Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, Blade Runner, Star Wars, Mortal Kombat, and comic book teen angst. A young girl discovers that she is an heiress to a power that could end a eons long war. Not a great series but a fun and entertaining series. Hyperwerks-Image

A lot of Crossgen tops my favorites list:

Sojourn
Ruse
El Cazador
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

I'm working on a lot of the 'Sigil-verse' titles from them, but the production values alone make them worth picking up.

Too bad some of those never made it past 6 issues or so, but they had strong openings and beautiful art!
