I know its a great series. A friend loaned me the first 3 TPBs and I've been hooked ever since. I need to get the trades so that I can sit down one day and read them all.xodacia81 wrote:Finished Ex Machina up through and including volume # 7. Well, I think I have another series to add to the pull list. Excellent read. Too bad it will only run 50 or so issues, if BKV sticks to his guns.

For sure. It's an awesome read.Elveen wrote:Just get them all. 4 really leaves you wanting more RIGHT NOW. 6 is really great too.

That's the thing I was most surprised about with the series. It is utterly compelling, in a way few series ever have been.JustCallMeAric wrote:I know its a great series. I'm too cheap to buy them all at one time, I'll probably order one a month, since the prices are pretty good via DCBS.Elveen wrote:Just get them all. Sure, it's poorly written and seems like every character in the book is poorly scripted and almost out of character, but they put Terrax on the cover dammit and I'm going to buy every issue they continue to do that with.Jay Tomio wrote:This week's Hulk is pretty lame - uhhh the Offenders?
Maybe they'll bring Terrax back out with a competent writer if I support him now.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Saying all may have been too "all inclusive" but in general the core superhero books were dissapointing to me . . . and I bought them all . . . I even bought all the Year One books in a effort to not throw away the good feeling I had after Identity Crisis . . but I dropped every monthly DC superhero book since . . .Jay Tomio wrote:
I don't know about that. The Shadowpact one-shot leading of to Infinite Crisis was badass, and on some level I enjoyed all of them (Secret Six etc)
I will pick up trades now that I hear are good . . . I actually liked the Seven Soliders trades so I am going to give Final Crisis a shot with the HC . . .
Edit:
I think my strong dislike for Infinite Crisis has soured some of the mini's that I liked leading up to it . . . if that makes any sense . . .

Marvel loves me, they just have a funny way of showing it. You don't know Marvel like I do.

It's one of the reason, in television, that I liked Babylon 5 and why I enjoy cable series more than network series. Each season is pre-planned. The only network series which comes close is 24. Other than Fables/Jack of Fables, my favorite Vertigo titles have been the "limited" epics, like Sandman, Y, Ex Machina, 100 Bullets and Preacher.400yrs wrote:I think part of what makes Vertigo great is that the series are all finite. So I started The First by Crossgen.
It was the first time I was not immediately hooked. I almost, put it down, but I decided to give it a few more issues. I am now a bit interested. So a few more books to see.
Really, I don't like that Bart Sears no-one-looks-like-that-but-every-character-looks-like-that art. Again a first, I have visually loved the Crossgen books, not crazy about the look of the beginning of the First.

Savage Dragon 145 - I've been looking for a good jump on point for SD for a while now and never found one. This issue is finally a good jump on point. Pretty good story with some nicely done fill-ins on what's happening in the series. #148 is Image's FCBD book, so I'm picking this up through #148 to decide whether to keep it on the sub or not.

I'm giving Savage Dragon the old three-issue try starting with 148. It was advertised as a good jumping-on point and they suckerpunched my interest by putting the golden age Daredevil on the cover.400yrs wrote:Savage Dragon 145 - I've been looking for a good jump on point for SD for a while now and never found one. Not to scare you off reading it, but The First was probably one of my least favorite CG series. The story was lacking and the art by Sears was unimpressive.Elveen wrote:So I started The First by Crossgen.

I used to read Savage Dragon all the time up until shortly after he found out his origin. I guess after that I lost interest. What's been happening since?400yrs wrote:Savage Dragon 145 - I've been looking for a good jump on point for SD for a while now and never found one. This issue is finally a good jump on point.
