Hey Everyone Im New Here
I figured id say hey and start a thread since im new here. I heard about this site a while ago but just got around to it now. I guess ill write a little about how i got into comics. I never read comics as a kid. I was really into sports fall was football, winter was basketball, and spring and summer was baseball. I owned a few for some reason I dont remember buying them. But I know I never read them. Anyway fast foward i was going to school in NYC and would pass Midtown Comics everyday which is a pretty cool looking store if youve ever seen it. So here was me at 19 never havin read a comic going to a store without a clue what to get.
I was somewhat interested in getting into comics cause alot of the movies were starting to come out. So on a wim one day i just walked in. I asked an employee what I should pick up. And it was just before Civil War so that day I actually walked out with about every book that was leading up to Civil War. Ive been hooked since although i really dont read current books
And how I got into Valiant. There are 2 monthly shows here in NJ that i started going to pick up older books. I kept seeing Valiant in discount bins. I didnt have a clue what the books were. Then I was looking at Newsarama and they had some article i think its called It Came From the Quarter Bin and HARD Corps was the issue. It got a good review and i was interested in it cause David Michelinie (sp?) wrote it and it was at the time I had just got his 1st Iron Man run. So next time I picked up a few issues and loved it. So thats about all and im sure ill be around here alot.

Welcome abroad!
Pre-Unity was definitely the best, and for a year or so afterward the quality was pretty good. I think most of the "new" titles that cropped up afterward weren't the best quality, and some of the original series got downright bad near the end, while others stayed about even-keeled with their post-Unity work. Rai got better (after sucking for a year or so) towards the end, and many people say Bloodshot and Shadowman were good all the way through.
Just don't say we didn't warn you, when it comes to X-O and Magnus especially!

Hola Compadre.
There is a lot of good stuff post unity. Pre-unity is pretty much a 10. But there are for sure some real good stuff after. The end is pretty bad for most books. X-O, Eternal Warrior, Shadowman, A&A, Harby are all good post unity. (at least for a while)
The end of Hard Corps is rubbish that Oscar the Grouch would not even touch.

If you are a completist like most here, then you'll find yourself buying them at some point. Just don't expect much in the way of great stories and you'll be fine.mrc1214 wrote:Well from what ive read and heard before I started Pre-Unity was great post wasnt great. I havent tried anything Post-Unity yetDaniel Jackson wrote:Magnus, X-O, Rai and Harbinger were pretty awful towards the end as well.

Welcome and check out the non Valiant threads while you’re here—great conversation all around. If you’re just getting into the Valiant Universe Pre-Unity is a great place to start and don’t forget about the newly published hard cover collections for Harbinger, X-O, and Archer & Armstrong.
Also if it’s not too late you may want to check out the black Solar Penguin sign up while there’s still time to reserve one. If you stay around here for any real length of time you may regret missing out on the little guy.

I gotta question is it generally safe to buy books off here??
Alot of the Valiant books and DU books do pop up in discount bins but i dont really think alot of sellers at the shows i go to even bother bringing them. And from what ive been looking at alot of the people on here have alot of extra Valiant/DU books for sale.

I would have to say yes. Now there is always a chance when buying over the internet, but I have bought a TON of stuff from members on this board. It might be good to ask around about the person your looking to buy from if your worried.

There are very few occasions that I can recall where a deal go sour around here. It does happen, but overall the people that sell around here are top notch.VEI Reborn wrote:mrc1214 wrote:I gotta question is it generally safe to buy books off here??

And the other thing is, if a board member who sells books is still here now, they are probably OK. Go look at our "Kudos" thread in the other section, you can see "feedback" of a sort left for people here.Daniel Jackson wrote:There are very few occasions that I can recall where a deal go sour around here. As a whole my buying experience here has been much nicer than buying through e-bay. Oftentimes you see someone new with less than 10 posts saying, “Buy my stuff.” In all fairness the new guy is probably legit but I’ve found that that guys I gotten to be familiar with want me to be happy with my purchase besides making a buck for themselves. It becomes more like buying a few issues from a buddy as opposed to a faceless stranger.

I've had great experiences buying from the board. People hear won't compromise their reputation for a quick buck.mrc1214 wrote:I gotta question is it generally safe to buy books off here??

IMO, this is the best place to buy Valiant books. Especially commons.
