Hello Everyone

Post by hotshot_JVB »

This is HotShot_JVB here.
I've been lurker here forever and started reading Unity again. So dusted off my old box of Valiant comics and started working with Greg checklist.

I was wondering if the board could help me.

Instead of buying original single issues I'm missing from the super expense Ebay boys, what do you think of the new VE trade paper back books ? Are they worth $25 each ?

A&A
X-O
Harbinger
.... where's RAI ?

Thanks guys

They most definetely are worth it. The Remastered art along with new story and bonus material make them well worth the money.

Ignore slym, he has a condition. Welcome to the board and the recently released hardcovers are worth it, if you don't already have the material.

-Zaphod(will leave his personal displeasure with VEI out of the decision)

I imagine the reprints are for titles with a future. Both Shadowman and Rai have no future, barring a complete reboot.

It will be interesting to see what direction VEI will choose for those characters.

I do, I admit it - it's called "being clear, concise, and correct."

Well, Shadowman could be worked with, but I can't see Rai coming out unless VEI gets the "Gold Key 3" (Solar, Magnus, and Turok, heretofore known as the GK3, for the new guy) in their stable. At least, not in the classic form we all know and love from the old VALIANT days.

I have to say, with Rai being my personal favourite, IF they do anything with the character, it better be done right.

I can't see them acquiring the GK characters anytime soon now that Dark Horse is in the picture, so they better have a back up plan.

my belief that Turok isn't essential should be well known. What I want established is whether VEI can use Phil Seleski or John Torkelson? (was that Magnus' real name, I forget?)

If so, then we are fine. Rai can be used again too, just not necessarily the 4001+ versions.

I’ve enjoyed the HCs—the recolored art and new pages have been really good. If you have original issues you may do well just buying the one you want the most—your favorite title for example—and then deciding what’s best for you. If you don’t have the issues but are enjoying your dusted off comics then you probably wouldn’t go wrong buying any or all of the three.

Just be warned that, in my opinion, the guys redoing the books have been learning new things with edition so Harbinger looks great, X-O looks better, and A&A looks the best.

Sure, they can use Phil, but they can't use any likeness of Solar or Magnus in new material. Reprints of older material are a grey area and seem to be ok.
