Once optioned, a certain amount of money will be given to owners of said property, so property cannot be shopped around to other company's.

Options are usually for 363 days. After that, if nothing comes of it with first company, the owners can shop somewhere else.
I wondered how long they last. Is that a standard amount of days? It would seem like the length of the option could be stated in an agreement.

Anyway, seems like the Harby option should be expiring soon if it hasn't already. I doubt there will be much interest in Harby going forward. It's too much like X-men and Push.

I always believed that length of option varied on a contract-by-contract basis.

Yep, length, renewal options, and other details vary from contract to contract.

If they do a Youngblood movie the CGI tech exists to add all the needed extra teeth to the actors.

So true; all the action takes place in a field of strategically-placed gopher mounds.

We're in an economic crisis, man! $300 of dry ice and some buckets o' water will do rather nicely.

Ha

we had some interesting discussion about Liefeld at the convention. It's still amazing that the dude is as popular as he is. So much so we noticed that he had changed the price of head sketches from $50 to $60 (the '5' was visibly changed into a '6').

Ratners spiel is typical hollywoodese for "I am just saying the right things with neat buzzwords, really though we are just covering our basis by reserving the project should there be enough fanbuzz to make some money."

I figure that Harbinger was optioned after VEI got the rights to the properties so that if there was any decent buzz from fans during a relaunch of the universe, Ratner and co. were able to get the rights "on the cheap."

VEI hasn't followed through, so Ratner is onto other unoptioned comic book properties. More cybersquatting for non-cyber stuff.

I am going to further speculate that VEI's inability to relaunch the universe and create a decent buzz is why they moved on to Youngblood. And if you have seen any Ratner films, be thankful that he has left Harbinger alone and pray it gets optioned by somebody else.

But was it really Brett Ratner personally that optioned Harbinger, or was it Paramount Studios? How closely associated is Ratner with the Harbinger option? Could Paramount move forward with another director, or is it Ratner or nobody?

This is just proof that Ratner will attach himself to ANYTHING that will give headlines his way.

I also believe that Ratner was never really going to direct a Harbinger movie in the first place.

Pathetic Ratner PATHETIC...
