I also agree, we need to be patient. When they are ready to make an announcement about something and it is real, they will. I wouldn't expect to hear anything from them in the short term.

I don't know. They announced Ratner to direct Harbinger, yet until the film is completed there will be doubt, as so many films do not get made despite options being taken up. It seems their (VEI) enthusiasm for announcement is reserved for the shinyness of Hollywood, more so than for the fans of their potential comic book products.

doesn't really matter a whole lot if they did nothing to promote the company, though. :?

Do we know necessarily that they weren't though? I mean maybe they weren't promoting it to 'fanboys' outright, but they were just going around talking to some people. :?

True. They could of been there making contacts with artists they might want to get on board or to just introduce themselves to others they might want to do business with down the road. There are many ways to "promote" yourself without having a table or putting up a huge banner

At the Shooter panel, Jim did make mention of the fact that he had done the two new stories for VEI (the ones already released, not two new ones).

You all can watch the DVD, I guess it'll be on there, but toward the end, as he was answering a comment or question about his revisting the Legion recently, he said something to the effect that,

As you may know I was hired to do a couple of new Valiant stories recently, and it was strange working with those characters again. But the guys who own them now seem like a good group of guys and I didn't mind it.

Nothing was said about doing future work with VEI, nor did anyone ask him whether he had plans to do so in the future.

For me, it would have been great to hear something announced at the NY con.

My attitude is, patience.

I still have faith that it will all work out.

So Basically Shooter Was Open to talk about his relationship with VEI but nobody had any interest or further questions basically. It is good to hear that even at this point he is comfortable with the company, which tells me he had a good experience and would be open for more, so that's pretty good to know.

Yet another missed opportunity to connect with the fanbase and get the message out about Valiant.
unless you have no message other than "Valiant Properties are for rent". Fans don't care much about that.

VEI has been very vocal about hyping their planning stages. Being patient is one thing but becoming an apologist for their silence isn't honorable. Dino built the hype up very quick and I purchased their "Chronicled previously released material with 5% ALL NEW MATERIAL". I won't be supporting anything short of a relaunch going forward, unless it is for material that I need anyways.

dino was on here constantly encouraging us to do their advertising for them. And I believed this group was sincere and that supporting them was a cause I could get behind. I think anyone, by this point, is justified in their cynicism in regards to anything VEI posts on this board. Schilling to the converted.

A few years back there was some noise about a VALIANT revival.

Then came the agonizing silence caused by the legal fight over trademarks, etc.

The problem was solved and there was a surge of enthusiasm.

Now another agonizing period of silence has set in.

Patience is a virtue - but that doesn't mean patience is always rewarded. Especially when we don't really know what it is we are waiting for.

We all know what we want [though its a bit different for each of us], but there have been and continue to be serious questions as to what form a VALIANT revival would take. A hard reboot? A soft reboot? A continuation from some point in established VALIANT continuity? Mini series? A single ongoing series? A line of ongoing series?

I understand the approach of not advertising something until you can guarantee delivery. I appreciate that.

But silence makes a lot more sense if they don't know what they plan on doing next - or if the financing of this effort is in question. Otherwise, why not be a little more specific on their goals?

Who will carry out the vision [writing, art, EIC, etc.], when new product hits the stands, a joint venture with another company -- these are the kind of announcements I can understand not being made until they are confirmed.

But there is no unanimous position on what we collectively will like.

The sense is one of a lack of momentum, legitimate questions as to what is going on and whether the end product will be something we even like [on an individual basis]

Essentially at the moment, things seem no different than when the legal dispute was going on.

All I want is "we have a clear vision and are working on it". That would suffice. My main point is...this is no way to run a new company.

I don't think those of us urging patience are being apologists, just realists. The reality of the comic book industry is that even the top dogs with established franchises and top creators have trouble making profit from comic books alone. They depend on licensing of everything from cartoons to underoos to actually stay in business.

To think that VEI should rush into publishing a line of comics just because we're getting impatient is overstating our importance a bit. For them to succeed they need a strong multimedia plan that is well thought out and executed.

They only get one chance at a strong launch to change the perception of Valiant for the average comic reader. I don't think selling 2,000 copies an issue is going to cut it. [side note: even Virgin Comics only lasted 2 years with massive funding from Virgin Group and the Deepak Chopra empire, and that was before the economic collapse]

I started reading Valiant comics in 1991, so I've been waiting as long as anybody for these characters to come back. I've also been through numerous failed relaunches, so I've seen that it's not as easy as just putting some comics out to achieve lasting success.

As hardcore fans we do deserve updates on what's going on, and up until about 6 months ago we were getting that. The fact that we aren't getting updates anymore is because for whatever reason the timing isn't right to come out with what's going on behind the scenes, and I respect that.

I trust Dino and give him the benefit of the doubt because he is one of us, and he wants the same thing we all want.

I think we're lucky Dino and crew got the characters instead of some corporation gobbling them into obscurity, so we should give them the time to do it right and not badger them.

It's hard to give support to silence, but after the troubles getting A&A out and considering the economy, at this point I think no news is good news. Here's to hoping they weather the storm and we get to the other side soon :thumb:

VEI (probably)are using this time well considering where to start their vision-either to continue on from where VALIANT ended,or ACCLAIM ended.Where that will lead on future storylines and **gulp** which vision will be the most profitable. The devil is in the details. It would be unwise to announce anything at this point if they are doing that.In this economy right now alot of companies are taking a hard look and just hoping they will survive and keep a job ,do it well and still send their kids to college.I'd imagine they are thinking the same.To get a great story i'm willing to wait.Patience is a virtue, that is often rewarded.Im betting this philosophy will pay off. :thumb:

I'm in no rush, as Diamond's new policy's regarding minimum sales have probably caused a bit of a change in plans.

By all accounts many current publishers are moving to a ogn format as opposed to monthly books.

So wait and see is fine by me.
