NYCC 2009 News?
I've been lurking around the few comic sites I know of, anxiously awaiting any news regarding Valiant, VEI, Jim Shooter or even Dark Horse, and I haven't seen anything. Has anyone seen/heard any news?
I thought I read that both VEI and Shooter were going to make announcements. Did I misread, or am I just too impatient? Or, even more likely, do I just not know where to look for the news?
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Re: NYCC 2009 News?
Shooter missed Friday (I believe due to illness), but was there Saturday and had his panel. There was no announcement, as that was just a rumor that was posted on this board, and too many of us got excited and chose to believe it. Dino mentioned in a post that "something was in the works" with VEI, but gave no time frame whatsoever. So basically there is nothing to discuss, as usual.t_inkster wrote:I've been lurking around the few comic sites I know of, anxiously awaiting any news regarding Valiant, VEI, Jim Shooter or even Dark Horse, and I haven't seen anything. Does anyone know for certain whether there was a VEI presence or not, at the NYCC?Brother J wrote:Shooter missed Friday (I believe due to illness), but was there Saturday and had his panel. It would have seemed to be an obvious vehicle for an announcement, which makes me wonder if there is going to be little to actually announce.

Hmm. I just heard the sound of disinterest growing within me even more. Sounds kind of like a stomach grumble.Brother J wrote:Shooter missed Friday (I believe due to illness), but was there Saturday and had his panel. Given that there has been no further announcemnt of HC's or other collected editions (unless I missed something after A & A); no announcement of defintive new comic books (just the nebulous comments made last year alluding to the creation of new material, again unless I missed something); no apparent announcements from NYCC so far; and no press releases since July 2008 (6 months ago) on VEI's own site, then my confidence in seeing something new with the VALIANT characters any time soon is minimal at best.
I believe the orders for May are due next week, in which case I would expect the earliest sign of anything new would now be June at the soonest. Given the way news filters out I don't expect anything for then either. Basically, I do not see anything new until the second half of 2009, possibly nothing then, and possibly only further small amounts of material in future HC collections.

Any bit of "we aren't dead yet" would go a long way. Sometimes silence works. Sometimes it kills confidence in a company. I've begun to see my faith wane significantly from where it once was.Daniel Jackson wrote:Yeah, that is definitely not helping the situation.superman-prime wrote:I think the current economic conditions would be a big diterent in spending any kind of funds right not its just a tough time for any company especially a new one getting going![]()

One small note, about a month ago, and that the first in about 4 months? So, that makes what, 5 months or so with only a single bit of NON information? I don't see much reason to hold my breath. I don't plan on passing out waiting for nothing.VEI Reborn wrote:Didnt Dino just a month ago post up saying things are coming? That was good enough for me

Patience is a virtue, but when you are trying to build a new company, maintaing total silence and a certain aloofness? I don't know. Either they are busy-unlikely-or they are jerking around or in REAL trouble because of the economy. My guess in all this is that the economy has hit them.superman-prime wrote:not like there was anything for 10 years plus patiance is a virtue

I'm also disappointed in the lack of news, but considering the state of the economy this is probably the absolute worst time to launch a new comic book universe. Not to mention the fact that retailers and readers will be a bit hesitant to trust the Valiant brand name at first.
I trust Dino and crew are hard at work making sure when Valiant does come back, it will be for good this time
