You might try downloading an IRC client like mIRC. The server name is irc.villageirc.net . The room name is #valiantcomics. That will take you to the same chatroom the java client will.

I have been having problems getting into chat recently as well. I have mIRC but have no idea how to use it. You mind taking me through step by step on this because I am a bit slow.

I am afraid I don't know what all sequences you'd have to go through to set it up and can't check myself since I am a Linux user.
