Episode 21, Spotlight on Archer & Armstrong Available NOW!!

It's a new year for Only The Valiant. We play this one fast and loose for the first episode of the new year as we discuss one of Valiant's finer titles, Archer & Armstrong. In addition to our thoughts on why this series was so fantastic, you will:
  • Learn how you can fight the power, even if you are an Average Joe.
  • Impress your friends after you learn the secret origin of the word "bankrupt"
  • Find out what revolutionary mathmatical concept Valiant used in the numbering of their comics, and how you can put this concept to work for you.
  • Be shown one simple trick that you can use to multiply your ability to count using just your two hands by ONE HUNDRED (your geek friends will be impressed).
  • Find out who the experts would cast as Archer and Armstrong, and find out what connection this has to Star Wars (!)
  • Who is that? Is that Ron Paul showing up to discuss the virtues of gold?
  • Learn what three key elements made the first 13 issues of Archer & Armstrong such great stories!
  • Armstrong as the Eternal Geomancer: opinions vary.
  • Hear our shout out to our homeboy Sven The Spider Alien, plus learn how the spider aliens could have fulfilled their full potential
  • Learn by listening how to say stuff about comic books that you have never read. Sean gives a particularly good example of this about Quantum & Woody.
  • Discover the secret X-Rated issues of Valiant comics. OK, maybe just rated R. Maybe PG-13. Things just aren't the same as they were back in the day.

So I am listening to the podcast right now....

And for the record, I was 3rd in the SDCC poker game.

BTE was first, then MOTA, the me, then Blood.

How could you guys forget.....

It's called selective memory. And, I suspect, lots and lots of beer. That WAS a poker game, after all.

Just finished episode 21 and I was a little disappointed. Usually the character spotlights are my favorites but this one didn't really seem to spotlight more than the HC and a couple of "A&A was one of my favorites". I just wish that there would have been more actually talking about some of the story arcs and little known facts like were done with other characters.

And Zeph better not be really thinking about changing his "name".... that would just suck!

It was still a fun listen though. I actually enjoyed the math trivia and I want to learn to count in binary. :thumb:

Isn't there a CGC episode in the bag? How about releasing it before it's completely out of date?

More, more, more, dammit.

Oh yeah, unrelated note - as terms of an agreement, I must say unto Greg Holland "[ZWH], get off the cross".

The response was (twice) "tell that to Greg Holland". So I have.

Wow, my last name was used and everything...
As if "tell that to Greg" wouldn't have been clear enough. :hm:

For the record, it's "Greg Owen Holland".
That's what I'm supposed to hear when I'm in trouble.

Are you trying to say something about the state of "professionally graded" comics and how the popularity is declining because of CGC's monopoly of the market and the inherent problems associated with monopolies (bribery, scandal, etc.) along with other facts, such as they stubbornly refuse to release their grading standards to the public?

Or are you just saying Sean is slow getting these out?

  :D

Thanks for the feedback. I was not as prepared for this episode as I usually.

This has been a VERY busy and unfun month for me in terms of my day job, and all the non-work projects have had to take a back seat..
