Awesome. I am so looking forward to that mini. I never thought going into the book that Cinderella would become my favorite character, but I absolutely love what Willingham did with her, and am eager to see where Roberson takes her.
Cindy is mos def a very cool character. I loved her story in the last trade.

I wonder if it will be good? B.W. is some hard shoes to follow.
Roberson has been writing with Willingham and Sturges since way back in the day (they were/are in a writing group). He's also been nominated for awards like The World Fantasy Award 3 times (and probably should have won one) and won the Sidewise Award. He's also edited/published some great, smart speculative fiction.

So he has the skills and the knowledge - he also has a genuine love for the medium.

I'm not saying any of that means anything, but I will say I think Sturges (I have a lengthy, and I'll go ahead and say it - AWESOME - interview with him coming up in the future) has shown he can cut it, and I'd bet Roberson will be all right.

The guy has the sensibility - and that's the most important part. Plus Mcmanus is doing the art - that's official enough for me by itself!

Thanks for the endorsement. I'll look in to it.

It slipped my mind that McManus was doing the art. That's worth the price of admission alone.

I picked up a full run of Fables on a whim, not having heard much about the series at all, just hoping to get a good read. Wow, like finding a hidden treasure. I read the first 20 or so issues and put it away for a bit. I just don't want to run out of books too quick. Top 5 series reads, ever. So well done it outclasses other titles by a long way.

I am. Despite the "funny" aspects, JOF is, in its own way, just as dark or, maybe, darker than Fables. I love what they've done with the "universe" via JOF. The whole idea of :::Spoilers:::The Literals:::End Spoilers::: is fantastic. I can't wait to see what the Great Fables Crossover brings. Wonderful characters and direction to the series. To top it all off, JOF has maybe the best cover work Boland has ever done.

So I just finished Fables: Rose Red (TPB #15 I think)

Super great, wonderful. The horrific Literals/JoF crossover is LOOOOOOOOOONG in the past. This is such a great book. I really liked the extras in the back of the TPB (I'm assuming that the extras originally appeared in #100). I'm hoping that I get a B&N gift card for Christmas so I can get TPB #16.

I loves me some Fables.

It could not have been better. It was like while I was reading it, I was super enjoying it..... but also bummin.

Every page I turned was one page closer to the end. Kinda like when you would hook up with a hot chick at summer camp, it is all good, but you can see the end quickly.

Every story arc has been great.

I think if I could pick only one title to read, give me Fables.

Now, I have not read all of Sandman, and Astro City is very, very good..... but 10 TPBs worth of Fables, with #11 TPB coming out in a few months.....

Make mine Fables.

One last thing..... the Fables TPB pages are news-print-esque. I kinda liked it. I don't need the super glossy pages.

Bottom line.... Fables is a great read.
I absolutely LOVE Fables

Me too. The followup story to Rose Red was equally cool and the current one could end up being even better than the last one. As of the RR followup-arc, some long-standing story seeds are finally sprouting. Excellent series that lost its way for a year or so but finally got back on track.

That crossover killed the series for me. *SQUEE* was one of the worst things ever. The idea was clever, the execution was Secret Weapons bad.
It was bad but the following arcs have been back to the quality of the first 10 storylines. Dark Ages/Great Crossover were trash-although DA had moments-but since then? Other than that one bad year, the series has been rocking.

I didn't care for the crossover either. It had it moments here and there, but overall, it was a disappointment. But Fables is one of the few books I can't wait to get in the mail every six months or so when the new tbp comes out. I immediately read it right away no matter what is in my "to read" pile.

He's talking about the belief among some people that Willingham meant to end it at #75. However, while it seems a logical place to end it, BW had long said he had a "Dave Simm plan" for Fables. My take on that comment has always been that it is going to consist of 300 issues, and as the first "over-arc" was 75 issues, then the next 3 will be as well. 75x4=300.

Maybe I'm getting the issue # messed up because I read the trades, but was it the issue where Snow and Bigby kind of walk off to their home in the woods and everyone looks like they had a happy ending?

I think that happened twice. Once after he returned from his exile and again when the war was over.

It has been a while since I read it, but either right before or right after The Good Prince was where it felt like his original plot plan ran its course. I can think of a hard end spot in the book and I don't think there is one, but I'm speaking more plot-plan-wise.

Thinking back, likely before The Good Prince. He likely came up with the plot for The Good Prince (which was a great story) and decided to continue on with the 300 issue plan. Everything I read after that felt like a mish mash of ideas that he was just coming up with, but which didn't really gel. Yeah, he/you can call that a second act, but it felt more like a continuation where there shouldn't have been one.
