Man, you don't want to listen to the episodes where Chiclo pronounces Jack Boniface as "Jack Bony-Fachi".Heath wrote:I just listened to the podcast for the first time ever (episode 20). Entertaining. But one thing bugged me... the pronunciation of Solar and Aric. I'm not sure who it was that pronounced them So-LAR and AR-ick but it drove me nuts! It's soh-ler (as in "solar energy") and AIR-ik (just like "Eric").
But otherwise, I enjoyed the podcast and I can get over that one little thing. Good work, guys!

I agree with the way you pronounce Solar and Aric. The way they say it doesn't bother me, but Bony-Fachi does.

After the interview with Janet Jackson, the question was cleared up. It was after recording had stopped (that was a fun hour, suckers) and I now know that Jack's last name is boh-nih-fuhs.400yrs wrote:Man, you don't want to listen to the episodes where Chiclo pronounces Jack Boniface as "Jack Bony-Fachi".Heath wrote:I just listened to the podcast for the first time ever (episode 20). I doubt the "So-LAR" will stop anytime soon. I started it and it seems to have spread. It's not the way I pronounce "solar" when discussing phenomena related to stars or specifically the sun, but it is the way I say Phil Seleski's alter ego.

Pronunciation So-ler as in solar energy is correct pronunciation in terms of the spelling as part of the English language,
Pronunciation So-LAR has more of a ring to it in terms of the title Solar: Man of the Atom IMO.
I always pronounced Aric as if it were ARRICK. Don't know why, it is just the way I read it I guess. He was a barbarian so I thought that it would be pronounced sharply and harsh.

The podcast and the site, albeit connected, are not one and the same.
Even moreso than information, I hope the podcasts have flavor. Zeph and C-lo (and I hope myself) each add a certain spice to the mix to give the show it's flavor. Those spices will not be removed from the recipe.

The way it was pronounced at Valiant amongst ourselves was So-LAR and AH-ric. Aric's uncle was Alaric - AL-AH-Ric - so AH-ric seemed the way to go. Alaric was the Visigoth king who kicked the Romans' *SQUEE* in about 408. Who knew comics could be so edutaintional?Drift wrote: Pronunciation So-LAR has more of a ring to it in terms of the title Solar: Man of the Atom IMO.

Not my choices, they were like that when I got there. I started something like 2-weeks after Shooter left. I tend to agree on the Solar (sol-er) point.

I'd just like to point out that if you want more of the inside tidbits that we talk about before, after, and during recording that don't make it into the final episode, check out our twitter feed: http://twitter.com/onlythevaliantChiclo wrote:After the interview with Janet Jackson, the question was cleared up. Just kidding. And thanks for the insider info! It's always cool to hear little things like that!
(I can see pronouncing Aric as "AH-rik", but So-LAR still seems mighty strange to me! It makes me think of the old SNL skits of "Lothar Of The Hill People." Of course, "Bony-Fachi" is just downright wacky!)

The next episode will be recorded early next year, it will be a spotlight on Archer & Armstrong.
If you have any questions about Archer & Armstrong, or thoughts about them, what you liked, what you disliked, send them to us and we will include it in the show.
Also, if you have any thoughts on the recent Archer & Armstrong hardcover, send us those as well, we will have our review of that release as part of the episode.
I may have a contest for a copy of the Archer & Armstrong hardcover as well, but we'll have to see. I am still remiss on sending out the prize to the last winner (early next year, I promise).
Send your comments by email to onlythevaliant_at_gmail.com, or you can send me or Chiclo a PM.
Also, and I've never tried this, but if you want to record a comment, you can send us an mp3 via email with your thoughts or questions. I'll include that as well. Just use your computer mic and audio recorder.

My fault.
We would have another one out already but I had to reschedule since family unexpectedly showed up in town the night we were supposed to record.
But the good news is there's more time to mail your Archer and Armstrong related comments and questions to onlythevaliant@gmail.com!

holiday podcast, great idea
Great idea on the Valiant Christmas podcast.
The pre Unity Harbinger Christmas was always one of my favorites and practically could have been an episode even without the orchestrated post Unity Christmas, although a few of those stories are really good too, especially Solar like you guys said.
I was reading through A&A and had a weird idea for a podcast... don't laugh... X-rated Valiant (ok more like PG-13 or R). Seriously, BWS loaded up A&A #6 and several other of his works with some pretty obvious sexual references and imagery, a tea pot shaped like a massive unit, a 'pillar of strength' shooting up from behind archer, topless angels all over the place. Seriously, if you ever feel the need to go low brow I think there's enough material to do an episode about the various kinds of sex/nudity etc... in the Valiant U.
