Wondering, where did you start reading the series ? Begining, middle ?400yrs wrote:Like everyone else said, start at the beginning. There are trades and hardcovers which can be had at reasonable prices on ebay. There are few people who do not enjoy this book if they start it from the beginning.JustCallMeAric wrote:I will have to check out Walking Dead. Where is a good place to jump in?
I started reading it at issue #30... TPBs do come in handy. I love this title. Newest issue was released yesterday. (rubs hands together)

I picked up a single issue somewhere in the mid teens and liked it. After reading that single issue, I immediately picked up the first trade and tracked down all the back issues I could.
So I guess I started in the middle and then went back to the beginning. I've reread the first six or seven trades about 2-3 times now. Same for Invincible, but I picked up #1 off the racks and then got back to the series around #10 or so.
Both series are better read from the beginning (and worth it too) even though both kind of start slow (Invincible moreso). I guess the same could be said for almost any series though.
I REALLY tried to get into Invincible (at the time it came out I was in comms with dino and he said it was FANTASTIC), but the book was really slow for me (at that time) and I just dropped it. I have seen A LOT of positive feedback on the book, so I guess I should try it again.400yrs wrote:Knightt wrote:Wondering, where did you start reading the series ? But The Walking Dead... geez, that book is balls deep 24/7 and it seemed like EVERY issue had this GREAT cliffhanger. And 'cliffhangers', I believe are essential to comics. I have put off posting in the Marvel upcoming price hike and possibility of TPBs becoming a norm... for me, comics had those 'cliffhangers' to KEEP you coming back next month. I mean I realize that we are in an instant gratification culture now and a TPB can give you that in a nice tidy package but I would HATE to see monthly books go away. Where would those cliffhangers go ? And The Walking Dead keeps me coming back for more every month and is usually the first or second book to read.
Mouse Guard ? VERY nice read and a break from the norm. Great storytelling on a totally different level.

Yeah, some people don't like it. It definitely has a slower pacing than TWD. Kirkman has a ton of plots running through Invincible at the same time so it can take a while for a particular plot to progress. I like that style, some don't. I like all of the plots going on so it doesn't really matter when he gets back to a particular one.Knightt wrote: I REALLY tried to get into Invincible (at the time it came out I was in comms with dino and he said it was FANTASTIC), but the book was really slow for me (at that time) and I just dropped it. I just read #57. That was an insane issue. It was time for some action, but WHOA man. And the inside back cover teaser for the next issue....... Kirkman better not do it (but he probably will and it will still be great somehow). This issue was probably my favorite since the end of the prison arc.Knightt wrote:But The Walking Dead... geez, that book is balls deep 24/7 and it seemed like EVERY issue had this GREAT cliffhanger. Issue #57 was off the hook (you know what I am talking about), I didn't believe my eyes and just stopped for a minute to close my eyes and think 'please don't let that happen, please don't....)
As far as the cover... the writer, Kirkman seems like he will do what he will, even if it is terrible. I am not complaining but Kirkman is bold enought to make it happen.
So now I sit here and wait... I haven't checked, is there a 'Walking Dead Thread' ? If not, maybe we should move it to one and get this threa back on track. NOT that I am not digging the exchange here but the derailment of this thread was unintentional.

This title is (IMO) one of the BEST to come along in a good while.

I like what Joe Casey is doing with Youngblood. The art is awesome too. The problem I had with this book was lateness. Apparently Donovan can't keep up with a monthly book and for me, this one needed to come out fairly consistently for me to remember the last issue.Egomaniac wrote:Savage Dragon
Youngblood (yes, I said it)
The Boys
IDW Transformers
I hear that Liefeld will be doing both writing and pencils starting with #9. I'm hoping it's just to give Donovan some time to catch up and not a permanent thing. I've avoided all the Liefeld covers and I can't get myself to buy an issue that he draws.
