My Story

Post by darkknight919 »

I started reading funny books pretty young, they were introduced to my by my stepfather when I was around 8 years old. So needless to say, he didnt mind a bit when I spent my "allowance" on comics! In the early nineties, I mostly read the stuff that he collected, because he had tons of back issues of all the major X books, Spidey, JLA, etc. Well along came Valiant. They were the first books I could actually call my own. I started reading from day one, as the Valiant Universe was building its foundation. Valiant's superheroes were my pride and joy at that age. (Still are.) As Wizard magazine hyped Valiant books to no end, their value soared. Ahhh, being a kid was fun.

Six months later: Mother had major beef with comic-loving stepfather, divorce follows. For some reason I'll never understand, she threw ALL of my comic books away after the split. ALL of them. So about a year ago I came across some Magnus books at a garage sale. After re-readind my favorite superhero's adventures 13 years later, I was hooked!
I guess you guys know what follows........

hours of life slowly being drained away by eBay.....

red and puffy eyes from reading 500 posts a day.....

contemplating opening that bottle of Armstrong Ale cause your outta Mich Light...........

If any of you have any symptoms like mine please let me know.
Together we might be able to find a cure.....

I had a crap load of good baseball cards as a kid that I remember I ended up giving away to another kid in the neighborhood. The card years were from the late 70's to early 80's so I shudder to think how many good rookie cards were in there, I know I had a bunch of Ozzie Smith rookies. :!:

Well, I think I valued the Fernando Valenzuela rookies a lot more at the time, anyway...and Joe Charboneau, the player who could open beer bottles with his eye socket! :o

In the 5th grade (1980) I gave a stack of TOPPS football cards (~300), which had about 4 Joe Montana rookie cards :!:

At least they went to a good friend at the time. :atomic:

Sorry about going off topic.

Something kinda similar happened to Archer. You know you can feel at peace when your comic books mimic your life. Or maybe you should be scared.
