Age of rediscovery : My relapse in to the world of Valiant.
First of all this is my shiny first post here so i am going to put it in a bag and board and not look at it for 10 years to see if its pages yellow. Then in 2018 im going to get it slabbed and sell it for 2 grand on google auctions after they buy ebay.
Kidding aside here is my story on how i found lost and rediscovered the Valiant universe. Let me take you back to 1992 and i did what all 12 year olds did then. I played baseball and collected comics. Now i had several advantages that most 12 year olds did not when it came to my comics hobby. I was lucky enough from the age of 12 - 14 to work part time for store credit in a comic book shop. I was able to a mass quite a collection of my mainstay favs at that time. Spiderman and X-Men pretty much filled most of my long boxes with having almost every issue of spidey from 1989-Current at that time including multiple copies of 300 that i worked off it seemed like forever. This gave me amazing leverage when tradeing with my friends as i could get books that theey could never afford. I got quite a few long boxes for 1 issue deals. Then i was able to just go trade them in at work and pick up more better and harder to get comics. I was a 13 year old Donald Trump of comics.
After getting bored with the very convoluted storylines and constant turmoil that marvel was in in the early 90s i began to collect a ton of non mainstream books. Image comics i bought everything that was released but even as a preteen i knew that these books were more visual based. Dark Horse had a ton of great titles back then that i still follow to this day and i was able to get my 13 year old hands on a complete run of comico Grendels after i read War Child. I still read that book to this day.
Then Valiant was building a buzz. This was pre unity and before the prices went absolutely insane in 94ish? I was able to get up to speed on complete runs of Magnus Rai Xo and Harbinger. Plus the great bonus was that as working in a comic store i got first crack at all the gold editions and any promo *SQUEE* we got. I pretty much picked up every title valiant published in 92-94. Then everything changed a combination of high school punk rock and moving put comics on the back burner. The rapid decline i was seeing in the industry to my once substantial collection ended up with my dumping them all in 1997/1998 which netted me a nice bundle of cash but nothing like if i had thought of hanging on to a few key issues and cgcing them. Oh well.
Well fast forward to 2007 and i am now 27 and still enjoy a casual read of some comics here and there. Still got a sub to Amazing Spiderman. With that subscription comes the power of thee 25 cent back issue at my local comic shop where i pick up my books. These are just filler books at the most a 7.0 sometimes i can pull a 9.0 out but nothing special. What it is great for is filling in gaps in collections. I have been able to pull several early magnus robot fighters out 3,4,7, 11,14 Rai 6 11 X0 4 and 5 now i just remembered these books from my old days and for a quarter hey why not. To my surprise the books all had the coupons intact too. I am also able to get dozens of copies of the hard to get high numbers of all the main valiant books including last issues of shadowman and rai! So now i am slowly building back my collection using ebay to fill in the hard to find gaps.
Currently i have a full Harbinger run from 0-37ish but i still need a pink 0 hopefully i can trade it as i have 3 Harbinger 1s.
X0 1-10 but missing a ton in the 20s and above
Magnus im also solid till the early teens then it drops off.
Solar i am lucky and have gotten a few number 1s and 10s so that set is filling in nice!
Anyways thanks for reading this opus of a first post andd i look forward to talking to other comic fans on here

Thank you all and i will be sticking around. Looks likee a great place!
Just a few noob questions forgive me if there is a sticky somewhere with all the answers
Are the use of sig banners allowed or do you try to keep the site pretty image light?
I am guessing that there is a comic con presence from the site is there a list of cons that people attend somewhere? I always like to have a face behind the name.
Lastly where do those AMAZING penguins come from!

The signature option is in your profile, just look through the various options. It works better if you log in through the VEI site to do it though.
The penguins are the brain child of Sean Chen and unfortunately all of the available slots for any upcoming Valiant penguins are already filled.

What they said, PLUS some people have banners in their sigs, and as long as the pic isn't too large, no one will complain.twitch wrote:Thank you all and i will be sticking around. Looks likee a great place!
