at least the issues I have (1-3). A year or so ago when people were asking how we would hypothetically re-launch Valiant my thought was to do a "Crisis" type miniseries to set the universe straight and back into some semblance of a "unified continuity"

Somebody mentioned that was a good idea, I think I might have missed the implied sarcasm. That was some really rough writing, in particular Alex Darque and his sister....I kinda dig the vibe that Shooter was going for with this attempt at a Valiant/Acclaim crisis story, but if VEI ever do try something along this lines I hope they can do a better job at it.
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

I can't even claim there is any payola going on here...I mean, the I liked the overall story. The theme of it worked for me. The dialogue and execution left...something to be desired.

Like Magnus punking Aric...
and the casual use of travel through dimensions...
and the multiple appearances of Solar #1 as self-reference...

but I guess I just liked the theme of closing all of the tangent universes down and disolving it all back to the main universe (Earth 1?)

yeah, I have had the books for a few years now. Originally I was not going to touch it and was just going to read the pdf, but the pdf turned me off of reading it for a very long time. It is convulted and confusing and I gave up. The books are still quite convulted but I guess I am just more of a visual reader and it helps to have all them pretty pictures to see who is who in the frame.

Shooter was confined in his writing and had to come up with something that Acclaim wanted. That being the case, a lot things turned out badly. I liked the idea of U2K, and not all of it was bad. I think it would be great to have VEI commission Jim to do something similar to U2K to relauch the new universe. Only this time he can do things the right way.

I thought that part was pretty cool. Acclaim wanted him gone to make room for their version anyway, so I think it was fitting to have Magnus be the one to take him out.

I thought the first issue was awful - turning the VH2 Master Darque into a terrible stock villain despite all the great work Christina Z did with him in the VH2 stories. I basically gave up on the series being good at that point.

And then I got issue 2. Issue 2 showed Shooter's brilliant writing. It was like night and day between issue 1 and 2.

Issue 3 was awful again, and after reading the rest of the proposed script, I am very glad it never came to pass. Wiping out the VH1 characters with a squirt gun? What the hell?

Jim Starlin was also terrible on the art duties (yes, I know he was trying to recreate the Valiant "art style" but it just looked bad).

I was very disappointed. I love Jim Shooter's writing and his original Valiant work is brilliant, but Unity 2000 was just a wasted opportunity.

Agreed. It's not his best work.

I think it was a "What The?" issue where Thor got his hair cut at the same barbershop that did Starfox's, Wolverine's, the Beast's and Quicksilver's hair. Goldilocks was upset at how he looked afterwards, but the others couldn't see anything wrong with his new 'do. Was that the Jim Starlin Barbershop, by any chance?
