NO!
I've been trying so hard to stick with Valiant as my new passion, and I just know Chiclo is going to convince me otherwise.
I've already got a secret stash of Ultraverse, Bravura, Comic's Greatest World and a few other DU's I've found set aside but refuse to acknowlege it until I have more Valiants.

Not yet. Only 1 Defiant too. The rest are just handfuls of titles or companies. I'll have to compile a needs list for the DU board. Still sorting and finding stuff i didn't even know I had!siren3-4 wrote:. . some good stuff in there . . .turborip wrote: I've already got a secret stash of Ultraverse, Bravura, Comic's Greatest World and a few other DU's I've found set aside but refuse to acknowlege it until I have more Valiants.![]()

going to pause the podcast in the middle and discuss one of the earliest topics, whether something is an imprint or a universe. Imprint is a publishing term to me, while a universe is a storyline term, so you're really talking apples and oranges there.
Can an imprint be a dead universe? Yes, Milestone was an imprint, but also was it's own universe until DC recently merged them. Are all imprints universes? Of course not, Vertigo is an imprint, but many of their titles are set in the DC Universe proper (at least at the beginning of Vertigo). There's also a difference between defunct companies and dead universes, in that many of the defunct companies like Comico didn't have a shared universe. We keep track of them in the Dead Universe section because they are similiar to the dead universes in that it's cool to collect a finite set of books, especially ones where the majority of issues can be obtained cheaply.
Like Chiclo stated at the beginning, a universe is a set of characters and titles with a shared continuity and storylines that don't generally cross over with other universes (unless the companies try something dopey, like Deathmate).
If you guys come to this conclusion later in the podcast (the part I haven't listened to yet) then...

That's a good definition. I think our discussion of the definition might have just created confusion rather than clarity.Brother J wrote:going to pause the podcast in the middle and discuss one of the earliest topics, whether something is an imprint or a universe. pausing the podcast again...
The dispute about what order the Ultraverse books were first released in. Here's the correct order, as I just went through the early Ultraverse checklists included in the books:
Month 1: Prime, Strangers, Hardcase
Month 2: Mantra, Freex
Month 3: Exiles, Prototype
Month 4: Firearm, Solution
Month 5: Night Man, Sludge
Month 6: Rune

I make no claim to data/info that I may get wrong because we're having a casual discussion on the topic.
There's a reason I'm not often wrong IN WRITING....that reason doesn't hold in conversation.
That said, my memory of events that happened in 1993, especially with regard to order of events, is still pretty damn fine.....

I always look to Brother J and even depluto (otherwise known as Mandingo) on Ultraverse. A few years back, there was a lot of research that went into collecting this data.Brother J wrote:X-O HoboJoe wrote:"Someone's gonna check their shortboxes and prove me right."Chiclo wrote:HA!Brother J wrote:pausing the podcast again...

I had asked Tom Mason a few direct questions but again there was some kind of 'I can't talk about this because I am helping in the writing of a book in regards to Malibu and Ultraverse'.
My hope is that this book actually sees the light of day and perhaps someday in the future we will be able to read the recollections of those that were there at the time.
Maybe it's time to ring up Tom ?
