Solar and Magnus

Post by birchthegreat »

so with the releases of XO, harbinger, and Archer & Armstrong, i take it we will eventually get Rai and others, but most importantly how are properties like Magnus and Solar play into this?

does valiant still own rights to those versions of the characters?

does darkhorse own them?

Collecting the first 8 of magnus robot fighter would be amazing, as would the amazing origin of Solar, first 5 issues i think.

but can valiant do it? if they do come out with a new valiant universe, will solar and magnus not be apart of it? Can they just call them Steve and Bob and continue on like nothing happend. (kinda like a pro wrestler gimmick change, or like the superman/superboy prime situation)

oh and btw i found the first 5 issues of solar in a quarter bin the other week, it was great, they were in pretty good condition too, almost like they had been baged and boreded for the past 15 years or so.

These copyright situations can get pretty confusing, so I don't think anyone can say for certain what will happen with VEI reprinting books with GK characters.

The way I understand it is that VEI is supposed to be able to reprint anything that has been previously published with the GK characters (from Valiant stuff). However, now that Dark Horse has entered the picture, I'm sure they would frown upon VEI putting stuff out with them in it. Even if Dark Horse would lose the case, it might be tied up in court for quite awhile cost VEI a lot of $$$.

Since Magnus is so intertwined in the Rai books, I doubt we will see reprints of the early issues of Rai anytime soon, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
